Pioneer DEH-P85BT Radio and Nokia N81 8Gb Phone
« on: 21 January 2008, 12:48:28 »

Hi, I have had the above radio for some time now and had it paired with the Nokia E65 phone with no problems. However I have now got a Nokia N81 8Gb and am having a problem getting it to auto connect with the radio. The radio finds the phone when I get in the car and connects and then immediately disconnects within a couple of seconds. I have set the radio to authorised on the phone, also if i tell the phone to connect, it will do so and stay connected until I switch off the ignition, then starts connecting and immediately disconnecting all the time next time I switch on the ignition. Does anyone else have this combination, and does it work alright?

Ahhh another Nokia N series phone that has issues with bluetooth connections.  ::)

All I can suggest is a firmware update. This will address the bluetooth issue sooner or later.

It is a fairly new phone, and the firmware updates will come thick and fast over the next couple of months.

I have a Pioneer 55BT, and several nokias, all work fine...

BUT go to bluetooth menu in your phone, you will have the pioneer device,  set this to authorised, and it should then always connect automatically.

Enjoy

edit:
reread your post, and appears you have done this.
I had the exact same issue, and that was the cure  :-?

I agree with the previous threads - Its almost certainly going to be the firmware in the Phone.

All, thanks for the replies, I keep checking the Nokia website and nothing is forthcoming yet. I have e-mailed Nolia but they seem very reluctant to reply.

Only way to get updates is by the nokia sofware checker, and searching the web. There is at least one firmware update at this time.

My E50 updates quite often.

Do you have nokia pc suite installed?
If you do, and connect the phone, it should automatically tell you there is an update available, think you can force a check as well.

Just run the phone backup utility before you update, then restore afterwards and it as if nothing has changed.  Only thing it screws up for me is the bluetooth, I need to reauthorise, and recopy the phonebook to the radio, no big deal, I would forget to keep them in sync otherwise   ::)

Hi Dave and Jimbob, yes I connect regularly with Nokia PC Suite and let it search for updates, but the only one it has found up to now is an update for the PC Suite. Have just tried it again now and it tells me there are no new updates available. I think I will stick it on ebay and get a new Nokia E65 instead, no problems with this model.

Without wishing to make this into a mobile phone review thread I would be cautious about the E65. It has very mixed reviews on useability and relaibility.

It is really a question of what you want and need of the phone.

Point taken Dave, I will just say I have been lucky, I have had my E65 for 12 months now and it has never given me a problem, connects to the Pioneer first time every time, and has never broken down, just felt I would like a change. I have gone basck to the E65 now and sold the N81 on Ebay for a liitle more than I paid for it :y

Good to hear that phone has been good to you. :)
My N95 has had mixed reviews, but with updated firmware I have found it to be excellent.

Bonus result on the ebay sale too! :)

Ps. If you feel like a change, look at the Sony Ericsson phones, they have some great ones.
