Display stuck on 'Phone' - but not a phone stereo!
« on: 01 April 2008, 17:22:36 »

AARGHHHHHH my leccies are doing me in!!

(1) CD changer started ejecting randomly, no clue why (wiring maybe?)
(2) steering wheel controls inverted (wiring almost definitely?)
(3) display stuck on 'Phone', unable to play. Changer won't take cartridge.

How do I reset, take out the changer, or is it dig deep in the steering wheel and disconnect the controls?

Please anyone, I  need MUUUUSSIIIIIIIC!!!   :'(

I can lend you my tool box, it has a nice selection of hammers to give it a "tap" with.

Yes, and it was piping up with 'you need to subscribe' at ignition...just disconnected the battery and reconnected, reset and working. But please go on with your train of thought, I'm interested to know.

Sounds like a power feed or loose connection?

(description of the changer fault is making me think that?)

Has it had a phone kit removed at some point? mute wire loose? as that would give the message of PHONE and any loose power wires could give all sorts of electrical gremlins?

Hi Dave

I wonder if its all down to a power fluctuation at some point, is that possible? Say my mishap with the paper clip if you remember (slipped off pin 4 onto another pin during diagnostic)? It seems since disconnecting the battery and reconnecting, all gremlins in the CD changer (EJECT-CD after 2 mins) and the back-to-front steering wheel audio controls seem to have disappeared! Happy days...I hope.

Will report back if there's any gremlins remaining.

Ta guys

Short of shorting 12v and 0v (which would pop fuse, not possible to damage anything with paperclip in diag socket :y

By disconnect and reconnecting the power to the stereo, it has now "Rebooted" and like computers, that often cures most faults.

Remove the Trafficmaster.

On the Vectra with CCR600, CDC2 and Trafficmaster there was a mod required to the loom because everytime the Trafficmaster made an announcement it would eject the CD cartridge on the CDC2.

I think your trafficmaster / button has a problem and is causing your head unit to mute as well as causing the problem above. I'll dig out the instructions for the wiring mod if required.

Hey guys that reboot cured it for about 1 minute, its knackered again.

Never gonna use Trafficmaster so if you could dig out that guide I'd appreciate it.

I'll search now anyhow and see what I can find, but its doing my nut in! Driving to London Saturday, really need my stereo back!

My Traffic Master was fed via an adapter to/from the radio. The original loom pluged into the adaptor which in turn pluged into the back of the radio, the TM was then fed from  wires off the adaptor. I just removed the adaptor and plugged the original loom into the radio. I gave my TM away in return for a trim panel with out the TM switch.

TM unplugs - its a some 'extension' cable between car loom and headunit, with a feed to TM unit spliced off.

Never known such an action to cure a fault as it does not address the route cause of why it got into that state in the first place. It might well get it out of the failed conditionbut, for how long......

I would keep an eye on it!
