Crank sensor buggered??

Tested my car with TECH2.
It found that there was a fault 31, crankshaft speed sensor.

I measured it between pins 1 and 2, it showed 1128 ohms.
My autodata says that it should be 500-800 ohms.

I know that older cars give that 31 code when not running, but the guy who tested my car said that it shoudnīt appear...

EML doesnīt show it, and my car runs well..??

V6 will always show a 31 if not running.

If you have a 31, and the car starts, its fine.
If you have a 19, it needs replacing
If you have a 31 and the car doesn't start, its inconclusive.

Try it for yourself using a paperclip test, once with engine stopped, and again with engine running ;)

The reason for Tech2 was that we tried to check if any updates could be installed to engine management, but Tech2 didnīt find that engine managent update part because of present fault (31). Thats what mechanic told me...

Motoronic 2.8.1/3 as fitted to 3.0l is not flashable - new maps via EPROM.

On Omega V6, only Motronic 3.1.x, as fitted to 2.6 and 3.2 are flashable...

Well, that explains it. Funny though that he didnīt know it... :y

Iirc iīve read somewhere that there are updates for aircon too, are they also to newer models??

Iirc iīve read somewhere that there are updates for aircon too, are they also to newer models??
There are updates to Climate Control (ECC) system.  On prefacelift, only worthwhile if you have a very early one with only 5 fans speeds.  Facelift, whorthwhile update.

Mechanics dont know everything, he didnt know to redo the paperclip test/tech2 test with the engine running to see if the code 31 goes away...

ECC Update, had ours done about a year ago.

Before update, we were constantly pressing buttons to override the auto, make the systrem less harsh, more effective etc.

Since the update, the fans dont seem to blow you away as much, so it is quieter, also seems more efficient at maintaining a temperature.  Rarely override the settings now.

All in all makes it 'nicer'
