Rear Indicator lights not working
« on: 10 May 2008, 13:44:21 »

On my 52 reg Omega 2.2 the rear indicator lights have stopped working.
I thought it was down to a blown bulb but both left and right have stopped working (resulting in a high flash rate from the front and side bulbs) but the lights themselves still work when I put my hazards on (which shows the bulbs are OK).
Could it be a faulty stalk on the steering column?

Press the hazard switch on/off 20-30 times .. :)

They are known to cause problems and this sometimes sorts them ... no promises mind ..  :(

Very strange, as indicators are normally in pairs left and right not back and front :-/

Tried that.
No joy.
It's an intermittent fault and for the first 30 seconds or so on start up, the indicators work fine.
Perhaps (due to this) it's a voltage related issue but to be honest I'm just guesing here.
A mechanic friend said he'd never heard of such a thing either but that he'd check for earth shorts and run a multimeter over it next week.
In the meantime if anyone has come across a similar problem then I'd be grateful for input.
Cheers chaps .....

Check the earth point in the boot, its on the passenger side behind the boot plastic trim panel.

Beat me to it! I've been thinking over what fault could be and came down to dodgy wiring/earth!

Earth point checked and at 100%.
After a day of sitting outside the house, it all appears to be working normally now.
Sods law says it will start to play up just before its next MOT though.......  :-?

I had a similiar fault were the rear tail lights stopped working, traced the fault to the multi plug behind the footwell side cover on the n/s front footwell,

check wires on either side of plug and I think you will find that is the problem :)

All sorted now.
It turned out to be a faulty relay which was located behind the spare wheel.
The small black box is marked Blinkúberwachung.
£35 later and I have full blinkability.  ;D
