LCD screen and Wheel Controls on non Vaux H/U
« on: 30 December 2008, 20:05:00 »

Whats the best lcd info screen thing I can plug and play fit into instead of my cooking spec CD one and can i get steering wheel controls working on my pioneer head unit? (Bearing in mind it doesnt have controls at the mo, I have just aquired a steering wheel with controls to fit) As I remember from years ago converter plugs that were available once.

Cheers as per  :y

MID is best display without factory HU, which your CD should already have.

Many HUs have optional adapters to drive MIDs and steering wheel.

The second of the top line OEL ones, after the dolphins, with the racing cars, before they bought the dolphins back  ::) (I can get the model tomorrow  ;D )

Ummm, dunno which one I have then, the factory HU was clearly A: broken and B: lobbed in there to fill a hole, I got tired of no tu8nes so chucked mine in (but at least gives me acope to upgrade with resorting to locating rare bose setups!)

My display just gives the time and date on the top row, used to say 'SAFE' just under that when the dodgy HU was in. There is then a seperate black section which I would expect warning lights etc to be in underneath, but not seen anything yet!

The steering wheel looks like a base model effort, plain and 'smooth' with the black based badge in the middle. The new one is the chrome 'cut out' badge with the raised half moon centre with the dimples and steering wheel controls.

Hope that details enough? I will try and get some pics tomorrow if you'd like?  :y

Right, my display details were a bit in accurate (Lies, all Lies!)

Time and temp, the date came up before on the Vaux HU...

Does your Pioneer have the ability to run the display and steering remote controls? Check the handbook !!

I suspect not !!

We have 2 medium end pioneer units, both with steering controls and mid output.

You only get a timer and track number for cd's / mp3's, no info...
but you do get radio station text names.

check out
http://www.incarexpress.co.uk/view_product.php?partno=CADPI150
and see if it is compatible with your head unit. - Sub Display Out is the pioneer term for it.

Bloody tight fit getting it all in though.

There will be a grey wire with a red stripe in the top section of the ISO plug (where power is and such), if you cut that, the display will work, but you will then lose power to the aerial amp in the back.

But if your getting steering control/display adaptor, obviously no need to do this :)

Wow, thats a small fortune! (may be cheaper to source a higher spec vaux HU!)

I think my unit can do it, will have to check the back, loads of room for wires etc though as the fuzz have cut a load of gumph out for the 'super switch anti crime 6000' that used to be in there!

Any use/more info on the LCD display?

Best you can do display wise is a MID, this would require a different wiper stalk, a little wiring and would add fuel consumption info....bulb failure and fluid level warnings would not work though without some extra wiring I suspect

Ah, a TID, thought I read it was a CD spec car, not plod...  ...sorry.

MID is the best display for yours, though as MDTM suggests, check control may need some extra work

Sorry, still getting used to plod being plod spec and not CD/3.2!

So just need to find a MID and right stalk (looking to do Cruise too, so left stalk aswell) and a magic pioneer box for a million pounds

Better off finding a CD+ breaker and then nabbing bits..! Really want fuel trip as that would help me save I think too.
You guys have any meets localish, much easier to pick your brains then! :D
