08/07 nav disc and ice warning.
« on: 13 February 2009, 07:51:13 »

loaded a new "aquired"  :o  :-X  version of Navteq yesterday, on the way to work this morning the ice warning came up every 30 seconds on my 20 minute journey to work. Bloody annoying! Is this due to the new disc or a coincidence with another fault? It seemed to be timed too accurately to be a random problem tbh. Anyone else had this?  Ta.

Nothing to do with Nav Disc, all down to outside temp (sensor in bumper)

Cant you put the old disk in to rule that out?

Nought to do with the satnav disk, thats a function of check control.  I'm guessing the temp was hovering around the 3C mark?

thanks for replys guys, dont have my disc at the mo, so cant rule it out. And the temp is diff now anyway.

Yes the temp was bang on 3c when i got in the car and dropped to 2.5 then 2.0 by the time i got to maidenhead jcn 8/9  10 mins later and stayed at
2.0 until i arrived. The ice warning was flashing up every 30 seconds throughout the journey. Never seen this before, it usually flashes up once and thats it iirc.

Mine flashes as soon as temp hit 3c and stayed on until I press the cancel/display button. Comes back if temp drops further.

Yeah thats what i would expect, every half a degree at the most. But this was laterally every 30 seconds, and the temp only dropped 1degree over a 20min journey.
Twice a minute over a 20 min journey, thats 40 warnings! By that rule it should have been minus 27degrees in Slough. Bloody Gremlins...

If the temperature is hovering on the 3 degree mark then the warning comes on at 3, off at 3.5.  On at 3, off at 3.5 ad infinitum, until the temperature changes another degree or so out the sensor range.

It will have nothing to do with the satnav CD as already said....

temp showed no change at 2c for the last 10 mins of the journey but still the warning "every" 30 seconds.i cant think of any weather condition that would fluctuate plus or minus half a degree precisely every 30 seconds for 10 to 20 mins.  ::)

Could always swap the temp sensor? Nice easy thing to try.

No discussion on distributing copyrighted material on this site I'm afraid, so all I can do is point you to the Navteq website.

Or German fleagay. Writeable media really is not the way to go with these head units. Some members have picked up genuine 08 european discs for £40! But for the impovement it gives you i would save your money and stick with your current version.

Other than map updates, what improvement can a map update provide  :-/

It's a worthwhile improvement for around £40, it's amazing how many junctions have changed from a 2003 disk to a 2008 one.
