iPod interconnect

Hello!

I've got an old 60GB iPod that I keep in the car with a radio FM transmitter, but I'd like to hook it up with a proper head unit connector, and use the steering wheel controls to select playlists etc.

I've had a quick Google for something, and found this...

Has anyone done similar? Pros and cons?

looks to be only for the old 804 headunit though, if that works with others could see it being popular!

i can't see that working on facelifts because the CD changer is built into the head unit?

What head unit are you running currently?

Do you have BOSE ?

It is a Bose unit, as far as I know (Bose logo comes up on the display, bose badges all over the show)

Unfortunately for you, FM modulator is the ONLY option available to you -

With BOSE system fitted, you cannot use aftermarket head units either unless you want to replace amp and speakers as well (speakers are 2 Ohm)

are you using a wired or wireless fm transmitter? Wireless ones are pritty shite as the ariel is on the back window.

A wired version is far better, you can tap into the ariel feed behind drivers kick pannel

I'm using a wireless one, and it is crap. I'll have to look see if I can hardwire something in.

Oh, and I don't know what the head unit is exactly, I noticed on the way home it said Siemens NCDC 1020 near the CD slot or something similar.

I agree that 99% of the wireless modulators out there are useless, and anything that even goes near a fag lighter for its power should be avoided at all costs.

However, I must completely disagree with the wired versions - Although the signal will be piped directkly into the head unit, that is not where I have the problem. The aerial for the radio on the Omega is crap as the best of times, and putting more joints and a circuit board in line are not going to give you a good signal when you want to go back to the FM radio.

We use these modulators, wireless, well built, and 100% reliable

Dave, the Guys not asking to change his Head Unit, he just asking whether he can plug his iPod in through the CD changer input with the gadget thing!, at that point the Bose thing is irrelevant,  :y

they should  just plug and play i had no problems with connecting my i pod to my 2006 phillips stereo in my 51 plate elite and every thing still worked ok  and mine has bose  i think i still have the connections somewhere as ive changed my stereo for a double din kenwood tv sat nav jobby

Could both be wrong here mate, but I read as He wants to hook up the iPod through the CD changer input and control the iPod through the Steering Wheel controls?

Seem to remember Ive heard of some Gadget that does this and displays the iPod track info on the screen, but whether the link is the gismo or whether it will work in the Miggy, I have no idea.

Sorry for the confusion chaps.

I don't want to change the head unit, just connect the iPod via a wired method, as you could probably tell from the link for the iPod connecter.

So, if I am just plugging in where the CD changed used to plug, I can still use the existing stereo, yeah?
