keyfob
« on: 21 November 2009, 15:31:39 »

HIya.
I bought a new keyfob as the old one was totaly broken.
The pads on the buttons were breaking away and one of the switches flew apart. I fitted the old blade etc after checking that the chip was still in place. I then tried to initialise the key in the ignition as per instructions in hains and handbook. No luck at all. >:(
Iam having to lock up using the key. Is it poss that the chip has lost its way? or some thing more sinister i wonder.
Can anybody help please. :)

You need to get the new one matched to the car using Tech2 - see TheBoy or any other forum Tech2 owner

Or you can get the original fob repaired for a tenner

Yeah, the spare I bought recently to fix mine was IR fob integrated with key.  Innards are identical. March '99 date code.

GM ditched IR by 99, must be a pattern part?

Anywho, footloose -

1) If its IR (blob thing next to sunroof dial) make sure the new remote has working battery

2) If its not IR, you will need tech2 and a car pass to program it

The new fob will have to be programmed to your car, you will need tech2 & the car pass, which has details of the car. Closest one to you is Brackley, drop TheBoy a PM, and check out his page for prices. Otherwise you will need to take it to a dealer.

Can't be done via post, the car must be present.
