Minor niggle on CCR2006
« on: 14 January 2010, 15:26:58 »

Bought a secondhand unit and everything works on it except.....random CD play doesn't work. Also whenever I turn the ignition back on the radio set station does not always come back up, it says 87. etc.
Ok little anoyances but is there a fix, reset I can do or even repair, if it's worth it ::)

Sounds like an EEprom failure to me

Try removing the set for an hour, then refitting again.

Random CD fault can also be poor laser condition, or marked surfaces on the discs - remembering of course that you should not use CDR/RW discs on that machine.

Can't say whether they have been used before I aquired it, but know not to use them. :y Random indictor does light up on display when used. Could this be a button/contact failure?

unlikely, if the display changes to indicate button has been pressed, then assume that the circuit is working and the fault lies either with laser (which would show up other faults like inability to read all discs) or more likely, the internal eeprom has failed (24LC02 ?) and is unable to retain any status memory  - also gives the faults of forgetting presets, defaulting to a different waveband, random code entry etc etc.

Inthat case would suspect a bad connection between front fascia pcb and main pcb of the cassette part.

Small edge connectors visable when fascia taken off, usually break or bend pins when fascia incorrectly put back on. Suspect the one on the right hand side
