does anyone know what type of antenna i need for the built in phone on a ccrt 700 just bought the car and the previous owner said it needs an antenna cos there are 2 sets of wires in the boot spare or does the phone run through the normal antenna

If you have a saloon it is the "bee sting" aerial  :) 

The radio aerial is actually part of the rear window demist wires.

And I expect it is already fitted... The spare wires in the boot are for the OnStar system, which never worked in the UK :y :y

Try putting a sim card in and see if you get a signal :y :y

it came with an 02 sim already inserted but cant get a signal it just says searching i can still use the menus and phonebook and stuff

the SIM could be old, been disconnected if not topped up for a year ect... you need to put a known working one in, which is difficult as the sim cards are full size.

Worth getting the number off it, and contacting o2 to make sure its still valid  :y

if you get a sim card sent to you from o2 (payg) it will come in a card for you to push the sim out of. Just leave it in the card and it shouldnt be a problem then
