2.5TD alarm problem
« on: 20 April 2010, 07:13:42 »

The alarm activates at random times. I can prevent this by using the alarm button inside the car to deactivate the interior sensors, at the moment.

Questions:

-- anyone seen this problem and can suggest a fix?
-- can I disable the alarm system?

Cheers

well if you know its the ultrasonics causing an issue, you can try things like adjusting where the air vents point, removing dangling air freshners.

both of those can cause false alarms...

I would also try disconnecting the bonnet switch -

Although you may be correct about the interior sensors, its far more common for the bonnet switch bracket to bend slightly allowing the switch to "trip" as the bonnet flexes under temperature movement.

If it does prove to be the interior sensors, as JimBob says, remove anything dangling from the mirror and the sensors can have the sensitivity adjusted - think it may be a Tech2 thing though.

Thanks for the suggestions.

The bonnet switch rests near the edge of a bonnet strengthening rib when the bomnet is shut. The switch itself is depressed by about 5mm when the bonnet is shut, which should be enough to ensure that the switch doesn't operate. However, the switch does have a lot of lateral movement so I wonder if it can sometimes slip off the edge of the the rib mentioned above? The "step" off the edge of the rib is also about 5mm, I think.

I've stuck a couple of Prit pads on the bonnet to fill the step. Time will tell if this works......

(Will ignore ultrasonic sensors for the moment. Fix the easy stuff first.)

Cheers

To prove, unplug the bonnet switch (that fools ecu into thinking bonnet is closed).
