Temperature guage goes crazy.
« on: 12 July 2010, 15:49:08 »

Previously posted about my erratic temp guage. Whilst driving, goes up and down from 0 to normal temp, then 0 again, but sometimes just stays on 0.
Popular opinion was a loose temp guage connection on sensor, and have now taken off plenum to find nice tight connection (checked via meter).
Do I change the sensor, or can something else be wrong?
when idling, sometimes it moves to normal, then drops slowly to 0. P*ssed off now, had to reconnect everything to use the car, so will have to remove it all again to change sensor if needed. GRRRRRR!!!!

TIA.

seen jumpy temp gauge needles caused by poor connection on back of panel, invariably when panel has been out and not correctly seated on refit

Somewhere on the site is a picture of the rear of the instrument panel.. it shows the way the electrical contacts are just a "touch fit" into a V shaped receptacle.

What is being suggested is a firm press to ensure that the "fingers" are making good contact on the "fixed" receptacle.... if that makes sense...

Trouble is . I can't find the pictures of the rear of the panel !!!  It explains it far better .. picture says a thousand words ....

:(

Mike, if you fancy it, I obviously have a set of dash clocks going.

If yours is the same as my newer one, the MID will have to be changed, oh, and this one reads 158,000 :(

Might be worth chucking it in as a test to see if you have a faulty panel though??????
