How many miles has yours covered?
« on: 21 February 2008, 13:02:13 »

I've owned my 8 year old Omega since new and it's done 174,000 and still going strong. It used to be my company car and then I bought it about 4 years ago. I change the oil and filter every 10,000 miles and the cambelt every 40,000. It just flew through its MOT this week. The only things I can think of which have gone wrong with it are:

the ABS ACU failed
crankshaft sensor failure
leaking seals on diff
broken rear spring
new exhaust (twice)
1 cat replaced
cam covers replaced
one re-gas to the A/C
broken glove box and coin box latches
broken arm rest catch
broken handbrake lever
key remote control failure
broken drivers hinge door strap
false alarm siren
Battery failure
couple of split vacuum pipes
Rust bubble appearing on rear wing at join with roof pillar

Most of the above has happened within the last 5 years.

It now has an irritating intermittent fault with the EML flashing on and off at speed which I'm still trying to diagnose.

But overall I'm pretty happy. The car still feels great to drive and I intend to keep it going for some time yet

So what's gone wrong with other high miler Migs out there?

Whose car has the highest mileage?

I would change it every 3/4k

10k is too long, and at less than £10 per change using GM oil and filter when you DIY, its not a large expense!

2.2 's done 107k
3.0's done 186k

My last mega 2.5 cdx passed 225,000 miles when both the oil cooler and heater matrix gave up,but would have probably still been going if I had the knowledge I have now thanks to this forum and others advise.
Intend to try for a higher mileage with my present car..fuel prices permitting

mine is currently on 152,000 and is rising at a rate of 6/700 miles a week, since i have had it i have put 60,000 miles on her

it gets an oil change every 3000 miles and so far hasn't needed a great deal of money spending

I'm about to hit 103k.  Have had the Omega since about 66k miles and it was bought in March 2002.

As for the bits that fall off, he's what the invoices say:

Water pump
Oil cooler
HT leads - twice (when they fail they always fail across the two cylinder banks)
One battery
Crank sensor - twice (limp home mode is never much fun)
Drivers door lock - twice (always looks good doing the Dukes of Hazzard window exiting)
Front bushes
Cam cover and cylinder head gaskets
Cambelt and rollers - twice!

The rear diff seals are also leaking and one of the rear shocks is on its way out...always something that needs doing!

Other than that I do about 6k miles a year so it gets an oil change at the annual service.
