Austrian Mountain Pass
« on: 26 February 2008, 11:25:57 »

Where is a good place to go in Austria for some mountain pass roads? I shall be in Slovina for a week, so southern Austria would be better. Can anyone reccomend some good roads?

Get down to Berchtesgarden and razz up and down the access road to Hitler's 'hideout'. Better still, bribe one of the special coach drivers to race you down.

Maybe a bit too far North for you, Tunnie, but this is apparently very good:

According to google maps thats in the west, that looks doable for me! I will be in Northern Slovina.

Looks very nice, cheers for that.

I would say make a decent diversion and go to THE mountain pass...
Stelvio! :)

Quite simply the finest "road" you can ever drive along.
Just remember to use engine braking! ;)

I will never forget Mr DTM showing me how to drive down that pass... amazing.  8-)

I've got a whole bunch of photo's from the top of that, and the end of the glacier....   a bit of a scare coming down into italy....    the brake fluid boiled.....  ARGGHHH  ran out of handbrake lining just before the bottom as well !

overnighter in the village inn, lovely grub, got new brakes the next day :D
(we were a tad over loaded probably, 5 up and luggage for 3 weeks, and 3 of the 5 were "women"  )
