Dont beleive my eyes......
« on: 28 February 2008, 12:36:46 »

 :o :o :o :o
Just nipped to the shop in my lunch hour as i have ran out of doggy food this morning......

on route home i saw a facelift pull up behind me, nice looking one(same it wasnot an estate) 02 plate. .....
but when i looked to try and see in my mirror who was driving i couldnt see anyone.??????
well got stuck at the lights and then i could see what looked like a little old lady drivin this big motor but she was straining to see over the stearing wheel.

im  :o :o :o cos 1, what is she doing driving such a big car and 2, :o :o cos does she not know how to raise the seat or drop the stearing wheel to aid her vision.

few yrs ago i was in london when i see an old lady driving a bentley, same thing, but she was sitting on cushions to raise her height. what makes me laugh is the amount of people who drive with there chests right up against the steering wheel, surely this is a bad thing to do as you are limited to turning the wheel

If you have a car with an air bag in the wheel it will do more damage in an accident.

IIRC you should sit no closer than 18" (450mm for those of us that are metricated) to the steering wheel if it has an air bag

My wife is a charming lady of diminutive stature and we have the same problem. She ends up much closer to the wheel than is ideal, but at least she can see over the top.  ;D ;D ;D

We are lucky, we can jump in and out of each others cars and drive them perfectly without adjusting the seats, wheel or mirrors, its great!

We normally stick to our own cars, but now and again she wants the estate.
Always worries me when she says can I take yours, there might be boy racers about  ;D

My wife is 4' 11" and she has the problem of sitting to close to the steering wheel, we can get the seat plenty high enough for her to see very well.
It is probably about time adjustable pedal boxes where fitted to mainstream cars.

As a side question if I disconnect the drivers airbag because of the damage it will do her, does anyone no what the Police or insurance companies would make of it ?

It's a no no. I think it would invalidate your insurance, or at least persuade Insurance coy. to refuse to pay out.

electric memory seats ain't they wonderful???

My Mrs is just under 5'2" , and I'm 6'2" needless to say there's a LOT of adjustment range required ;)

I am 'only' 5 ft. 14 inches tall!  ;D

.....One of the (many) reasons I love Omegas; `they have ALL the height-space and seat adjustment I need; I drove my sister`s Mondeo recently and had to endure the crown of my head pressed against the sunroof-trim all day (even with seat low as poss.!)....combined with constantly banging my forehead on the badly raked/placed A pillar getting in an out.....`rubbish design for a modern car, especially with 'folks' getting ever-taller. ;D
