£299 seems a bit excessive just for a chip unless its a custom job done on a rolling road.

I was thinking of trying one from german ebay in my mv6 for about £40.

Might work, it might not but he doas seem to have some good feedback from english customers.

Don't do it!!!! You will get good power gains but at a huge cost to the mpg, I looked into this for my audi and spoke to a few guys who had them, they ended up getting around 17mpg out of their 1.8T's!!!

Found them on the Courtenay sport site, to be honest not sure that for 13 bhp it's really worth it, the car runs good at the moment :y

I probably shouldn,t say this but I have the equipment to read and program eprom chips(I do some at work) I also have a box full of blank chips. If anyone wanted to lend me a modified chip aslong as it wasn't copyrighted I could copy the software from the chip and copy it to blank chips.

If I'm honest, I've considered a chip too!  Outway'd by the belief that a well maintained vehicle at it's standard peak performance will suffice.  I always assume that the design will be to achieve the best MPG, BHP and drivability...  probably not worth £300.

I recall working at Collins Performance in Cheshire, Sue was programming chips for the early turbo diesels.  Company cars that reps and the like thought that they'd been dupped with, by the government incentives and frugal bosses.  The conversation was that they'll get more torque which will inherently give a quicker 0-60 figure, economy will suffer though :'(

It's a trade off...

Predominantly my opinion...

Save your money Mike...  Buy some nice Whiskey Whisky :P

Used to have access to an eprom burner myself, it was for programming alarm dialers and Redcare chips, often wondered if an ECU chip was do-able,,  if it'll fit the slot, it WILL copy!  As you quite rightly say Copyright is paramount and the forum would not condone such a breach..

Chips are advertised as giving more bhp, more torque and better econeomy but the truth is you get either more power or more mpg.
Its a bit like using v power petrol over standard.
If you drive with a light foot you will gain a small amount on mpg as the engine will be producing more power at a set point meaning you don't have to press the throttle as hard to get the same performence.
However if you drive with a heavy foot you will loose mpg in favour of more power, it is impossible to get more power from the same engine without putting in more fuel.

The fuel gains you would get from fitting a chip would be that small you would hardly notice it so I would only go for one if you wan't to increase the performance.

re the mpg v performance, depending on car and chip, you can have both ;)

every mod that will bring more power, will consume more fuel..
