Hi, Welcome to the forum.

If you release the gear stick gaiter, underneath is a yellow switch you can manually operate to get it out of park.

Someone else will be along shortly to say what the long term fix is.

pull the gaiter up, there is a yellow solenoid you can manually move.
Its detailed in the handbook (Available in the FAQ section if you havent got one)

You need ignition ON and foot on the brake to release the safety catch. If that doesn't work there is a manual release down beside the gear lever ...

If you need to use this either the solenoid or the brake switch is probably FUBAR

A new brake pedal switch is generally the answer.  :y :y :y

It's easy enough to change - you will need a complete new lever assemby which will cost about £30.

The only fiddly bit is drilling out the pop-rivets and replacing them. Pop rivets are not nice (IMHO) so just be careful  :y

The other option is to just live with it.

Whoa!!! Steady on Rob!  ;D ;D ;D You've gone straight for replacement of the solenoid, it's usually the brake light switch that goes t1ts up.  :y :y

Agreed the brake switch causes this problem :y

You don't nned to lift up the gearstick gaiter though, simply lift out the "Snowflake"  cover, located to the passenger side of the gearstick. Easy with a small screwdriver, then like already said push the yellow plastic lever down... this will get you out of trouble until you have sorted the actual problem :y

its easier to lift the leather sleeve round the gear stick (is that the gaitor?) you dont need a screw driver for that!
You can get to that yellow switch that way!
