Just a thought, but to save the OP removing the manifold, isn't the engine code stamped on the block, on the passenger side, where it mates with the gearbox? Just rear of the oil filter / crank sensor.

I certainly have seen a few engine codes stamped here...

Yeap, Nitro paid a garage somewhere in South Wales to fit a 3.0 engine & gearbox.
He came up here to have some work done on his car as the "Garage" could not guarentee to make it oil tight :o
I then found it was a 2.5 engine they had fitted for him :o >:(

TBH I've not driven another Omega as this is my first....
Surely, if you only lift one side, leave the car in neutral and try to turn the wheel that's in the air, IF it's a LSD I souldn't be able to turn it by hand very easy???

on what basis have you tested?  by the way it handles, or removed the inspection plate?

Lifted one side of the car with it neutral and the handbrake off and I can turn the lifted wheel freely.
As I've already said, I've not driven another omega to compare it to....

the spin tests dont work on this type of diff - as stated earlier.

You can test with driving style, or by removing the inspection plate and physically checking :y

What type is it then? I didn't think there was an inspection plate, just the rear cover and I don't fancy taking the diff out... :-\

If you don`t fancy removing inspection plate, pop a driveshaft off, look in the hole in the diff, if you have one pin
 it`s non-lsd, two pins forming a "X" = LSD
