police spec engine/car?
« on: 28 October 2011, 23:19:21 »

im aware that most police cars are remaped and generally have the biggest spec brakes and best spec suspention (or even an non standard upgrade) what has been done to the omega ( 1994 early spec 3l v6) ? my car seems to act if it has a upgraded cams as it gets to about 3-4k and the just takes off and almost within a second or 2 it bouncing of the limiter (it is manual) is this normal? to me it seems like a very distinct power band which is what u get from uprated cams. also i notice that it doesnt have any cam sensors even tho the wires are there it doesnt have the pullys for it aswell just 4 of the same pullys no pick up cams with lobes. can any one help or tell me other wise

Very rare for any Omega to have anything done by the Police ;)

Except for heavy duty springs sometimes :-\

The "Power Band" you talk of sounds like the multiram system

If a V6 noticeably kicks its' heels up around 4k RPM it's normally because the multirams aren't working properly. They should pull like that from around 2.5K.

heavy duty rear springs, beefier alternator for all the police gizmo's some have a different ratio diff, but other than that, factory standard, no remaps or brake upgrades.

This describes multi-ram operation:

I've had a few explod now, and some have had Re Maps Ive even found a couple with enlarged Throttle Bodies, never got down to the Cam detials. some of the ones Ive had did go like stink, where others just seemed standard, surprisingly the quicker ones had pretty much standard diff ratio.

Plod Omegas are pretty standard mechanically.  Its seems some forces did remap for specific uses, only one I've seen that felt like remap was a 3.0 TVP ARV (and an auto!). Whether it was mapped by old bill or subsequent owner though...

...and I tried the chip in mine, but my existing chip was quicker (although the TVP was a quicker car, presumably lighter (all ARV cabinets long removed), and possibly lower geared (doubt it was LSD on an auto))

Never, ever seen engine mods.

Bigger batteries and alternators, beefier rear springs.

Oh, and the DBW ones had beefier front pipes so they didn't glow quite so much...

Yea, I know, wouldn't scrap it scrap anyway, unless I wrap it, a very quick remap 3.2, LPG and full stainless which for once actually softly suits the V6 engine noise rather than sounding like a Essex pimp.
