Leather or Cloth
« on: 20 November 2011, 00:53:49 »

As per the title, looking for feedback on experience. I currently have a 98 2.4 V6 Tourer with cloth trim which has got to be the comfiest car I've ever owned. Its started to get a bit tired and even though Ive just got it through a new MOT, I'm looking to change for the better. Got my eye on a few (one in particular), but looking for feed back from people who've gone from cloth to leather seats.....are they as comfy as the cloth or does Vauxhall make the same mistake as other non prenium brands and make/supply a less supportive seat when trimmed in skin. If so, are the earlier cars better of worse than facelifts?
Thanks in advance for your comments  :y

my current motor as per thingy on the left, yes you do slide around on the corners in leather even with a belt on which can be disconcerting to say the least.

my toy at the mo with bolsters and fabric, something else..

Ive had 2 Omegas (1 cloth MV6, 1 Leather MV6)
I do find the leather comfier and more supportive.
On the downside its hot in summer, cold in winter, and smaller people slide on the seats.

All in all we have had 5 omegas...

W CDX
S MV6 Cloth
S MV6 Cloth
02 MV6 Early Leather
52 MV6 Late Leather..

I prefer cloth generally, but think the best supportive seats are the 02 MV6 Leather.

Much prefer leather, although it has to be heated. Cloth can be nice in the hot weather though as leather gets a bit sticky if it's black.

although cloth is more suitable for usage, both cars I drive have leather chairs,  the cost of cleaning the cloth chairs in long years is huge.. :-\   even if you clear them, it requires long time and effort periodically..

Without doubt, the most comfortable seats on any Omega I've owned is Elite cloth.  Followed by sports cloth if, like me, you like the lateral support (and your arse will fit in). Cloth has the advantage in that your backside stays put, even during spirited driving, esp if you are a passenger.

The worse, by some margin, is preafcelift non sports leather.

In additional to the cold in winter, hot in summer arguments, Omega leather does tend to sometimes have a tendency to creak, which I find annoying, and slightly tiring.

All that said, both of my current ones are leather.

1st Omega I drove had elite leather. That put me off the idea of leather seats completely. No support combined with a slippery surface. Bearing in mind this was a 2.6 which was only running on 4 cylinders at the time, I still found support a problem. ;D

2nd had MV6 cloth. Haven't looked back really.

I also think, if kept clean, cloth seats wear better. It seems, especially in light colours, that very few Omega interiors with leather still look good, but the cloth seats generally look fine.

Each to their own, though.

As per Kevin and TB's posts.. the one in mind is a '98 Elite with black leather. Totally agree with all the other comments, the main being hot in the summer (kids on boosters so ok), heated seats so not bothered about winter. Don't throw the car around with the kids in (agree you do slide) so no issue. Wipe clean would be good with the kids. Just don't want to lose the amazing support/comfort of the cloths...even the wife was comfy after 6hrs. The car in mind is the same age and colour paint so now thinking that a seat swap will be my best way - my dark trim cloths are mint. Cheers for the advice fellas, much appreciated.

Leather if you want to sell it on soon, because every one seems to want leather as it seems to be a mark of prosperity or pompousness.

Cloth for comfort, grip(for your bottom) and will wear much better than leather. Most leather interiors look like crap with worn bolsters, cracks and creases. My 9 yr old sport cloth seats look like new. I looked at many with leather which all looked like a rhino's bottom.

Working heaters on Elite leather :o

Even if they do work, they take a good five minutes to warm up enough to take the edge of it, and about 15m to feel 'toasty'

Caveat, if you have messy kids. leather is easier to wipe clean.

They are terribly slow arent they. My other car's seats heat up in a few minutes, the miggy is toasty but the time I reach my destination.

As much as I like Leather, only the MV6 sports one work for me, think if I had to make a decision on choice and had to drive that car everyday it would probably be clothe.

This sounds like a common issue which at a guess is down to broken seat elements?? Is it common??

My M/Facelift Elite has had Black leather sports seats fitted from new.

When I first got the car I really didn,t get on with them and almost got to the point of swopping them for normal cloth Elite seats. After now sitting on them for in excess of 6 years and covering nearly 180k I can honestly say the only downside I really have is the cold shock in the winter months as my drivers side heater is fubbared. All the other 3 work fine and do take a while to warm up but do give a fair amount of heat when working.

The support and general comfort has been great and even though I had bought a set of retro fit heated seat pads I never got round to having them fitted...and here we are at winter again :-[

It really is a personal thing ,but I am quite happy sitting on "cow" even if its a bit chilly  ;D
