You could try synchronising first, switch ignition on, press and hold Auto and Off at the same time, and hold for about 20 seconds.

What would this achieve / correct?

It causes the ECU to re-learn the positioning of the servos that control the heater blending flaps. Worth a try, but no cigar in this case.

Sounds like it could be the HBV in this case, or perhaps a blocked heater matrix.

As has been said, try with the vacuum pipe removed from the HBV, as this should open the HBV. Check the HBV is plumbed the right way round. If that doesn't reveal anything, both pipes off the heater matrix connector at the bulkhead and flush it in both directions with a hose. I there's flow, try a new HBV.
