:y its already been said, but in my book there is only one that does what it says on the box and that is the leader of the pack - TomTom.
Even the basic is better than the pack but the top enders are magical to use and I am now at that stage and my 4th upgrade.
Go TomTom Go
Only slight problem is that you must not rely absolutely on it and still take heed of road signs even if you have the automatic update service I have! ;D

I know they're cheap, but they're not that cheap. ;D

I'm not fussy and have had a few sub £100 cars, but I'm not sure that I'd be seen dead in a £50 Omega, even if it was an Elite :-\

Have been using my tom tom pretty much every day for the last two years. It has been great, paid for itself several times over. Also used it to drive all over europe, with no problems.

How does that work then ;)

They can *only* *ever* get traffic updates via:
cellular data feed (expensive)
TMC FM stations (Classic FM)
Trafficmaster posts (short range)

Indeed. I got quite intimate with GPS on a project a few years back. I would suggest that, with a budget of a mighty 50 bits per second from each satellite, the DOD would have put broadcasting traffic data to TomToms "quite low" in their list of priorities. :D

What if they sprinkled it with fairy dust, would that help?
