Hi all miggy has got a problem and at a bad time for a dead blower motor(no demist/heater boost etc)
The climate control display seems to be indicating all ok
Haynes gives F33 as blower motor feed which checks out ok
Does any one please know of any further checks I can do before removal of the motor and resistor for checks
IE are there any relays to take into account?

Is that what Haynes calls the Series Resistor?
Don't know of a scuttle overflow
However thinking about it possible I could have been over enthusiastic with a powerwasher last week

Ah yes Albs thanks 
Possibly could be I think it may have a "hedgehog look" as it must be a few resistors wired in series with cooling fins or such to work as the climate control display increases fan speed

Yup, hedgehog.

Not resistors Cliffo B - its a fully transistorised speed controller on cars with climate control.

Easiest way to tell if it is that is put it on a code reader that can do live data of the climate panel.

You could still remove both wires (red and black, IIRC) from the speed controller to the fan, then connect 12 volts across these to see if the motor runs. That will tell you if the motor has had it. If the motor is OK, and the fuses are intact, speed controller would be under suspicion. Get a 2nd hand one and see if that works.

Thanks Kevin, I think I already have a speed controller organised from a member
Good to know its so easy to check out the motor without risk
Trouble is I simply can't allow the time either for myself or miggy for remedial action
Its the time of year for families so straight after I'll have to be on the case
Now fairly sure that the problem is not caused by a blocked scuttle drain
I'll pull the glove box and take it from there

Need some advice/help please
Got as far as air bag removal
Guess what!! some useless idiot's been here before
Problem is they've really damaged the 4 airbag torx screws possibly by useing a star bit of slightly smaller size
2 have released OK  other 2 are tang stripped
I'm nervous of causing a trigger as I think its going to mean useing a disc cutter or hacksaw to slot the screws
And may involve some light tapping
Or worse still a grinder to remove the heads
I disconnected the battery last night with the usual under 15 sec silent cut off
Question is is the airbag now disabled?
Airbag connector is still connected 
It will be better for me to work out how to release the connector with the airbag unit detached
And old hands are not as nimble as they used to be

What a pain when you come across someone else's bodge.

I would also disconnect the connector from the airbag. The system will be completely de-energised now but less wire attached to the airbag will be an additional precaution.

As to what you do next depends on you. See if you can work around the airbag in place. Can you at least get to the motor wiring, disconnect it from the controller and apply 12 volts and see if it runs or not? This would tell you if the motor itself needs to come out. If not, I personally would probably risk cutting a slot in the airbag screws with a dremel or similar, or drilling the heads off. Try not to be in the line of fire of the airbag while doing this (work from the side) and protect it from flying swarf with a damp rag or something.

I think you have to try hard to set an airbag off accidentally once it's completely disconnected, but they can cause nasty injury so it pays to be as cautious as you can.

Only needs glovebox out (better access) to change resistor

Thanks Kevin,now going to have to try the slotting with fine disc cutter approach
Will keep out of the line of fire
I'll disconnect the connector will have to try snipey pliers
Just needed to know I'd done all possible to disarm the trigger
Suppose there's always a risk
All I can do is use care to reduce odds
During the time of owning Miggy (about 3yrs)she's never been away from my care
So it looks as if the previous owner is to blame
Although the screws are not high tensile they've certainly been badly abused/butchered and need replacement
Oops sorry seemed to have lost my 2 last lines  (found them for you Cliff....  )

Now wondering what other shocks I'm in for as I go deeper in

Thanks Rob already have glove box off
can only see/access bottom of fan housing
A large cable trunking plastered with loads of masking tape is in the way
It appears to me some hamfisted ar*e has been here before
I feel I need to check out what's gone on previous for my peace of mind
An airbag secured with damaged torx screws seems dodgy to me
