V6 mpg on long runs
« on: 16 March 2008, 19:39:53 »

I manage to get 32.0mpg on my 3.0 mv6 doing 60 for about 15 miles. what i'm wandering is how juicey are the 3.2's compared to the 3.0 is it worth getting one, or shall i stay with 3.0, and also is there much power difference between the two engines? :-X

There is not a huge power or economy difference with either. Certainly not enough to warrant changing your car for, specially with this new tax crap.

Being a bit 'sad' I keep check on economy for my 2.5 V6.  ::)
Motorway long-distance steady speed, average runs (100+ miles):

56 mph= 36.4 mpg
65 mph= 37.1 mpg
77 mph= 41.2 mpg

*Interesting that the Omega`s clean aerodynamics come into play at higher speeds.

But I have to drive like a saint  [smiley=engel017.gif] to get the highest 2 figures; `very gentle acceleration and anticipating hills etc.....`such 'economic-driving-games' passes the time for me on long journeys.  ;)

it's abit stupid really i'm my mpg more than the road itself, that shouldn't happen all because of fuel prices. i saw a garage with £119.9 a litre for diesel. glad i haven't got for the moment.

I don't know what mine does on a long run as the furthest i've been in it is stoke. We're off down portsmouth on friday which is nearly 400 mile round trip, be interesting to see what it does.
The best my mfd reckons i've got so far is about 26mpg mostly running around town though.

I changed from 3.0 auto to 3.2 auto estate about three years ago.  My first impression was the 3.2 was much better around town about 19-20 compared to 16-17 for the 3.0.
On motorway with family, luggage and dog it does around 25mpg at 85mph (in Germany of course  ;)) and 27-28mpg at 70mph.  I didn't notice any difference in performance.
Alloy wheels are nicer though and sat nav is handy too, cos us blokes never ask for directions do we...

2.5 manual on a spirited but not thrashing  70 ish quick squirt in / out of roundabouts but only "playfull" after resetting the comp on leaving last years Lakesmeet showed 35.2 when i got home.
Usual scenario round town to & from work is 22/24 mpg.  8-)

I seem to be getting 24 around town and at 60-70mph on a run I average 35ish. Hoping on a motorway run i'll get high 30's. All in an auto MV6.

taking into account the LPG, it's a pretty economical proposition!

only had the car for a week but done 400 miles already and only 15 on petrol. I think the lpg system could do with a service because it has sputtered a couple of times but other than that it's great, no loss of power worthy of note.

The first full tank gave 250 miles on 50 litres, which works out at low 20's, but its the first fun car I've had in a while...so the driving was...spirited.

However on the way back from oxford today I've done 120 miles on around 15 litres, so thats about 30mpg, which based on -20% compared to petrol makes the 35mpg on the display about right.

The trip back to peterborough from oxford has a roundabout roughly every 5 miles (urgh) so lots of accelerating.
