You can go right off some people >:( ::) :D
I guess those that have 100 Mbit downstream and 10 Mbit upstream piss you right off then  ;D ;D ;D
Considering this is quick for here ::) ::)

The poor ping time is a concern though as that should not be affected by the connection speed (given its single packet), looks like there may be issues greater than just the link.

Normally around 60 TBH. We are about as far from the exchange as you can get as it's 2 villages away :o :o

Unfortunately it's not LLU (and isn't likely to be in the foreseeable future) and very low priority for BT to do anything with it

Either way, the ping test gives the network delay and this will be down to routers etc.

Even in the sticks you would expect to see pings of 20-30.

Might be worth doing a tracert for www.google.co.uk and see where the delays are occuring

I'd love to... Can you put that into plain English please :-[

Scrub that... Googled it and have done one but I don't have the faintest idea what it means :-[

Post the tracert results so we can see the bottle neck.

Looks like your BT router at the exchange is having an occasional issue.

Given his location, why that stupid speedtest.net site picked a server in Lancaster....  ....no wonder the ping is high.

Cripple - what exchange are you off, as if Woodbridge, I'm not surprised at your shite speed ;D

I guess google has mirror servers  :-\

As i just tried a tracert to google.co.uk as well, to compare figures.....i ended up at a different server  :-\

And only 10 hops to get there as opposed to LD's 17 hops

Tracing route to www-cctld.l.google.com [209.85.147.94]
over a maximum of 30 hops:

  3    24 ms    21 ms    23 ms  gi2-20-231.ptn-gw01.plus.net [84.92.5.153]
  4    28 ms    21 ms    23 ms  72.14.223.32
  5    23 ms    23 ms    22 ms  209.85.252.188

google operates many datacentres for geographical resilience and balancing.  Nobody truely knows how many, as they are secretive. Believed to be in the region og 14 datacentres and about 250,000 servers

Nope, not Woodbridge (which the pub is on and has a consistent 10meg pipe), but Eyke (which is just as far, if not further away ::))
