The poor ping time is a concern though as that should not be affected by the connection speed (given its single packet), looks like there may be issues greater than just the link.

Normally around 60 TBH. We are about as far from the exchange as you can get as it's 2 villages away

Unfortunately it's not LLU (and isn't likely to be in the foreseeable future) and very low priority for BT to do anything with it

Given his location, why that stupid speedtest.net site picked a server in Lancaster....  ....no wonder the ping is high.

As i just tried a tracert to google.co.uk as well, to compare figures.....i ended up at a different server 

And only 10 hops to get there as opposed to LD's 17 hops

Nope, not Woodbridge (which the pub is on and has a consistent 10meg pipe), but Eyke (which is just as far, if not further away )
