winter home for homeless cats..
« on: 26 January 2012, 19:36:21 »

As I mentioned in another thread that I had built several cat houses for winter, I thought it would be useful for some who like cats ..

its impossible to take every street cat in home so you may build a house easily/cheaply that can protect them from cold
winter ( up to -20 celcius, not tested for lower temps)..  one important point , place them on higher places that dogs cant reach
and door away from wind direction.. (if there is too much rain you can cover it with extra nylon if you wish)

I use wood nails (or metal nails if you prefer ) about 8-9 cms long to fix the parts..
and use hot silicone to glue together also for added insulation on all connections..

general material used is 4 cms thick rigid home insulation foam (better quality not the ordinary foam) panels..  the only problem is they are not easy to cut and need a sharp short knife.. also a long ruler (at least 50 CM or longer) and a CD pen..

and lastly some soft rubber foam to be used as a bed..

(without front panel) 2 level design higher part will be more hot obviously

as you can see there is a small window covered by nylon from both sides for some light inside  (but must glued properly or all hot air will leak outside)

and a scotch towel for the door vertically cut for cats to enter-exit easily

Good thinking. :y With this we could relegate our cat to the bottom of the garden where it won't be a PITA.*

*- Personally, I would relegate it a bit further down the garden to the Watercress line, just in front of a train. :-X
