Renault electronic handbrakes
« on: 27 January 2012, 12:29:19 »

So I was looking at a Renault Laguna diesel estate in nice condition, with low miles at the auctions the other day.

It started and ran fine but there was a fault message on the screen about the electronic handbrake.  The handbrake seemed to work OK, but I decided it wasn't worth risking messing about with French electronics!!  ::) Could be expensive!!  :o

The car went really cheap, and I can't help wondering if I missed a trick?  ???  Anyone have any experience with these?

I know some hadnbrake warnings are as simple as low brake fluid....dunno if that applies here though

Not sure I'd trust an electronic handbrake driven by French electrics even if it wasn't displaying a warning, TBH. :o

It was a gamble that at the time I didn't think was worth taking having been stung before with auction cars!  :'(

It could have been a simple fix like topping up fluid or even a new sensor, but it could have been an expensive mistake!!  :-\

I'm happy I walked away, but was wondering if it was a common thing for future reference!  ;)

Especially considering that VW can't get them right. Passats are particularly unreliable. As are Discoveries and RR Sports.

There a box of sh**e ;D
Total o/s inner wing strip down just to replace fuel filter and you need to use child labour(small hands) else where.
As for the hand brake motor its under the rear seats with a emergency release pull cord.
The motors tend to get wet and seize :y
I think you done youself a favour not buying it.
They have got a mad device that makes a most iritating bing noise that gets louder the more you go over 70mph(no not an ex wife)

At least the French give you a manual release unlike vw. Guess they realise that they will go wrong!!
