Speeding Fines
« on: 31 January 2012, 08:56:52 »

I heard on Radio 4's Today this morning that the government are proposing to raise the penalty for speeding from £60 to £100, to 'COMPENSATE THE VICTIMS OF CRIME' Well doesn't that just confirm that the fines have always been a source of revenue and not the deterrent it is supposed to be. >:( >:(

So if the victims of crime require compensation then surely the offenders must pay for it, or are motorists now criminals? >:( >:(

Barry's Halo is an urban legend, I reckon. ;D It was plausible while he was driving a 4 pot, perhaps, but it's looking decidedly dodgy since he upgraded to a V6 and started complaining about poor fuel consumption. We all know what that means.... :-X

heard a few people being sent to courses! how do they work that out? does it depend on how FAST you were going or how many points you already have on your licence..

im sorry but who is the victim of the crime of speeding  ??????

Householders and pedestrians who have to suffer excessive noise and danger. The outside noise from modern cars is immense compared to old cars.
Whether that noise is generated by tyres, engines, exhausts or wind noise I don't know. What I can say is I am out at 7am every Saturday morning walking along a main road with houses on both sides and a 30mph limit. Some "people" seem to think because it is early it is ok to double that speed, or worse overtake in the wrong places when someone is doing the speed limit.

For every action there is a reaction.
