Quick breather cleaning Q...
« on: 05 February 2012, 22:03:00 »

Hey up fellas  :y

Ok, tonight I decided to start the process of cleaning my breathers. TBH was a bit tired so I got it dismantled and will clean it in the week.

This is wher I'm at.....

Just referring to the notes I've made. Is this where the replacement seals and O rings should be fitted as per this guide...

http://www.omegaowners.com/forum/index.php?topic=90653.0

Also I'm literally going to cover EVERYTHING with carb cleaner, then use an old toothbrush to clean. The 4 small holes are still visible but like the the first pics in the guide there's a lot of goo so I figure that if it's part of the plenum, throttle body or breather bridge it's getting the carb cleaner/toothbrush treatment!

Cheers James,

I've looked at the pics and am struggling to understand where on the engine the ''small'' breather pipe that will take the piece of wire in it and where the big ''Y'' shape breather is.... are we talking about the 4 tubes that connect to the back of the plenum or am I talking complete dangle berries?  ;D

Just trying to get it in my mind so I know exactly what to do and to expect come next Saturday  :y

Breather box is low down under wiper motor area. One of the pipes that you disconnected from the back of plenum goes to the small hole in it. :y

Should add, if you stand on drivers side of engine and look down at the heat shield at back of engine, you can just about see the breather box. You are in an ideal position for access with the scuttle and plenum off. :y

Yes, the 'Y' piece is the bit at the back of the plenum.  :y

The Orings dont usually need replacing ime. ;) Those butterflys etc. look as though they havent been cleaned for years. ::)
I would clean the worst off with petrol first.Otherwise your going to get through several cans of carb cleaner. :y
Also, some petrol inside the plenum, then push a bottle cleaning brush in there and give it a scrub. ;)

Albs, the pic I've pinched from the guide but mine are exactly like that. Defo going to get something more ''industrial'' on to them as I did halF a can on just the ICV  :o

Anyone got any pics of where I should be cleaning the small and big breathers as positioned in the car? Just so I know exactly what I'm doing. :y

Trace the larger pipe of the Y piece down the back to the drivers side , it goes into a housing together with a smaller breather pipe  :y

@RobG, I take it the box in your pic is worth removing and cleaning inside when doing the breathers ?? Or is that just overkill ?

Thanks

Wouldnt be a bad idea to remove it to clean it - in theory. Istr its a pig of a thing to remove though. :-\

Webby - breather box isnt anywhere near as bad to get to as the dispack is. ;)
