@RobG, I take it the box in your pic is worth removing and cleaning inside when doing the breathers ?? Or is that just overkill ?

Thanks

Wouldnt be a bad idea to remove it to clean it - in theory. Istr its a pig of a thing to remove though. :-\

Webby - breather box isnt anywhere near as bad to get to as the dispack is. ;)

You aint kidding about that  :-\

Sorry guys, just a quickie....

I have just been home for my lunch and decided to have a quick go at cleaning the breather bridge, TB, plenum etc. It;s going to be harder than it looks as it's proper caked on but I'm getting Carb Cleaner supplies bought for me by mummy webb.

However, the breather bridge all cleaned up no problem... I used a small drill bit to get the crud out and all ''looks'' great from the outside. But when I poked my drill bit down the 4 pipes, 3 are clear and allowed pasage for the bit and one wouldnt budge after an inch. Also the two bigger pipes at the front of the breather bridge are also stuck about an inch down.

should they be like this or is this just crud stopping it?

cheers

No they should not be like that , take all the pipes off and soak them in cleaner / make sure they are completely clear one end to the other  :y

Yes,they are part of the breather system and need all the crap cleaning out.Just been finishing off doing the same thing on project CDX. ended up getting a shallow tray filled with petrol and leaving the breather bridge in there to soak. Then blew down the pipes, stuck a length of small bore plastic pipe down there and wiggled it about, soaked it again, blew down it again...........
Couldnt believe the amount of shite that came out considering I had already cleaned them in the usual way a couple of days ago.The petrol ended up a darkish brown colour with lots of lumpy bits in.Now tipped it out of the tray and theres a thick layer of sediment in the bottom of the tray.
Spend a bit of time on it Webby, you may be surprised at the amount of crud which comes out, depending on how well it has or hasnt benn done in the past.
If everything is really scummy I would recommend using petrol initially to shift the worst of it before wasting lots of cans of carb cleaner. :y
