Heated seats
« on: 09 February 2012, 19:12:55 »

Hi,

I have a problem with the passenger heated seat in as much that it doesn't work. I replaced the dash switch as this didn't light up so now I have a switch that works but no heat.
My understanding is that the heater elements are seperate but wondered if one should fail will it cause the other not to work because of the way they are linked electrically? I had some new elements priced up at Vauxhall today, about £70 odd pounds each plus VAT but don't really want to buy both if only one is faulty. What is the best way to test them please and how easy is it to get the seat covers off?

Thanks,

Leigh.

Both elements are wired in series with each other, so if one fails you lose both. LincsRob is the man to ask re heated seat.  :y :y

This is always an issue! There are a few things you can check, though ultimately it is the actual elements in most cases  :-\
There are loads of threads about it but there is a conncetor in the back of the seat which sometimes comes loose, and a control module in the base which may fail. As for removal of covers, it depends on whether leather or cloth. Cloth appears easier, whilst the elements are apparently sewn in to the leather which makes them very difficult.
I think this is right, but many members have actually carried out the 'surgery' and someone will be able to guide you further  :y

Thanks for the replies guys. If the weather holds I may bite the bullet and have a go at the weekend. Is there a way to test the control unit? Can it be swapped with the drivers one to see if it works or are they handed so to speak?

I can't speak for FL seats, but on the earlier seats you can certainly swap the base cushions over as they aren't "handed". That way you can prove whether the fault is in the base or rear cushion.

The other thing you can do is buy a set of working heated cloth (non-Elite) seats and strip them down as a source of elements - on these seats the elements can be replaced. "All" you would then do is lay the element under the existing seat fabric. It's fiddly and time consuming but actually what I've done to mine. The key thing is not to swap parts between FL and PFL and MFL over as they are different.

Cheers
