« on: 13 February 2012, 14:09:35 »

Can anyone recommend a decent paint scratch removal product , i have used Tcut and thats ok for fine scratches but it wont touch the deeper ones . Or is there another way other than using products like Tcut  :-\

Depends on the scratch but if they are deep(ish) but NOT through the lacquer then 2000 grit production wet and dry paper with a little washing liquid in the water will polish out scratches.
Once done compound and then polish .
Be very gentle though .

One or two are quite deep but most i will be able to try and get out with your advice  :y As for the deeper ones i really dont know how to tackle them .... :-\ what about those wax pencil things are they any good , my car is dark blue if that makes it any easier to hide the deep scratches  :-\

how old is the car ? if its 97 , I wont recommend using even 2000 grid on it as the laquer layer becomes too thin.. :-\

assuming the paint to be original..

Does your finger nail go into the scratch? If so you won't get it out as it's too deep.

this kind of deep scratches reaching the paint level can not be sanded and erased.. I can recommend one technique that I used in the past,  fold the 2000 grid (or 1500) and sand the scratch inside and corners lightly .. than cover the area with some paper band only leaving the scratch open.. and spray laquer (original laquer/hardener mixture) on it..

wait some days and then sand with 2000 and polish :y

ps: very light layer just to fill the scratch..

Ok Cem  :y what if i sand as you say then use a touch up brush , wait till hard then sand flat ...say that because i know the touch up brushes can apply thicker paint but it would be easier than spray or should i avoid the touch up paint  :-\

touch up paints are weak.. and dont stay long  , unless you also use laquer on top of it.. but generally touch up by hand dont give impressive results..  but better than nothing and if you wet sand (lightly) and polish,  may be adequate..

honestly , there is no magic method for very deep scratches.. but they will be hardly visible after repair..

metallic colors are very senstive and for a perfect job,  most of (or whole )  panel must be painted which is another trouble.. :-\

I have some options now so thanks  :y Now pray for warm weather or use a hairdryer  :y I would say looking at the deep scratches it really needs full panel respray but thats not cost effective as the paint job would exceed the price of the car , i will do my best  :y

painting the panel is a good solution but I guess color is different than the original now (fade) so preparing the exact color match will take time and will be costly..
