With a heavy heart I will concede that the PS3 has the potential to be a more capable console, though nobody truely knows how well the processor core will perform.

Expect anothe 18-24months before developers start getting the best from it.  Obviously, the new XBOX will be out by then, but not games to show off its power.

However, for most occasional gamers, console power, graphical capabilities et el are missing the point, as the Wii's success has shown.  The 'fun' has dropped out of such consoles unless you are a hardcore gamer.

Had mine a couple of years, its been flawless.  In fact, only fault I can find is the fan noise is intrusive!
God they are loud aren't they, i'm getting him an Elite model for his birthday and will probably have the other one downstairs for the rest of the family i mean it's a great console live is good fun and he likes it it's not overplayed or anything but he is going to be on his third now in just over a year :o
Does it have sufficient airflow.

Wii is more fun, both Xbox and PS haven't cottoned on to that yet.

For a couple of weeks then you realise the games are naffe and get bored of them.........unless you have had a few beers !

We have PS2 PS3 and Wii and to be honest there has only been one good Wii game so far (Super Mario Galaxy) loads for the PS2 (I'd still recommend it for a under 10 year old.

PS3 well that is great Motorstorm is Sues favourite game, the boys like Rachent and Clank and I am working through Assasins Creed

Yeah has a suffcient airflow lot's of air all around it, wii is great for fun and exercise i find the 360 better than the PS3 when you look at actual specs (well thats what my son told me).

He knows not of what he speaks......trouble is the PS3 is still awaiting a game that shows its real abilities....

It will be here very soon.

Got mine back in October 2006, and its still going strong :)

I hammered it aswell given I'm in Uni on a games course, so its been on a hell of alot.  Sold it to a friend last July, and he's constantly on the thing now too!

never once skipped a beat or crashed.  The only ever problem I had with it was with a dodgy TDU disc!  Oh, and busting the headset...

Bet its been through a few cost reductions since then!

Cost £320 from Asda with 2 games....

Sold with 5 games and 2 pads for £210...

Exactly!  I like the 360, the PS3 is 'ok', the Wii is awesome!  Purely on the level of entertainment from the games!

360 has some very good games which the PS3 doesn't, the online features on the 360 I find are much better than the PS3 (so I didn't mind paying for Live)  The PS3 still feels just like something hashed together, no centralised buddy or naming system, its a bit of a mess...

But again, the PS3 has some quality games itself (Ratchet and Clank for example).

I couldn't care about the tech specs, blu-ray, or whatever.  I purely go for the quality of the game on the system!  Don't get me wrong, good graphics do help towards it to a point, but some companies are focusing far too much on the realism of the environments than the gameplay itself!

I still like dusting off the Snes or Megadrive for some quality old-skool gameage.  Even Goldeneye on the N64 is something which has to be played when mates are round!

The Xbox 360 can be subject to a number of technical problems. Since the console's release in 2005, the product earned note in the press questioning its reliability and failure rate of the early consoles.

To aid customers with defective consoles, Microsoft has extended the Xbox 360's manufacturer's warranty to three years for general failure errors.

Since these problems surfaced, design modifications have been made to the console to improve reliability. All consoles manufactured after June 2007 have extensive revisions from the earliest units. Modifications include a reduction in the number, size and placement of components, including modifications to the mounting methodology, and a second GPU heatsink to dissipate more heat.
found this on wikipedia and searched xbox 360, i have one made august 2007 so it should not brack down, also to add you can buy a fan cooler from asda for about 20 pounds,it just fits on the back where the power lead fits in :y :y :yby the way hooked on guitar hero 2 and 3 at the moment just so brill 8-) 8-) 8-)

depending on the type of game you like, there are some real competent offerings coming up for PS3 release....

for example, Farcry 2 , stunning visuals ...(and the music , of course, is wonderful ;)   and yes, I've seen rather more than the online teaser...  :D )

Modern games may be graphically better, with more realism, but for 1st person shooters, the original PC DOOM is still hard to beat for pure gameplay :y

Give me a pinball machine any day ;D

My cousin used to have one in his living room. I notice it's been relegated to the shed now he's married, but it was perfect after-pub entertainment.

Best to have a detached house if you plan on playing it into the early hours. They are unbelieveably loud in a home environment :o.
