What is it, about the 2.5 S6 TD?
« on: 24 February 2012, 21:30:18 »

After spending the last year driving my 3.2 MV6, I've taken it off the road for repairs, and have been running around in a 2.5TD all week.

What is it about these cars? It's a pre-facelift cdx with the awful old CDX alloys, white cloth/beige interior, has the odd issue and is not particularly 'quick' off the mark... but I absoluitely love it!!! I love the sound of the S6 diesel, it sounds really, really nice, especially lower revs..

I can tell you what it is about the DTi for me.... 550 - 600 miles out of a tankful of fuel as opposed to 300 in the V6  :y

Oh and with a manual box you can keep the Turbo on song when you want too....  ::)

torque

Not sure if it's my (potential) boost leak, or whatever's causing the loud whoosh noise when the turbo spins.... but it doesn't feel all that torquey....

It will be, even without a turbo there's bags of torque, way more than a petrol at those revs

Auto TD manages around 450 to a tank IME. Chipped, obviously, as the thing is unusable in standard GM form.

Absolutely. In every single way, the auto is wrong for the TD. The auto is great in the V6 petrols, but simply does not suit the BMW lump.  Not idea how the DTi would fair with an auto, as we never got the chance to try one.

Decatting by gutting the innards of the Cat then welding the lid back on gets around that....  :-X
