Big thank you to THE MASTER
« on: 04 April 2012, 21:06:23 »

Although he said he couldn't find anything wrong with the steering and suspension, he's cured it :y

No more creaking or knocking :y

Thanks also for all the other work you did Mark :y

I had something similar after a 300 mile roundtrip to pinkys and back a few weeks ago.
The car had been up and down on the stands for months with just town work inbetween  :(

Everytime I pulled away or turned a corner the tinker groaned just like swmbo  ;D
I just left it for a week or so then just give every nut and bolt I could get too a tweak while it was sat on its wheels  :y

Nothing found but the groaning stopped  :y :y

Then again, it might of had something to do with the gag on swmbo's mouth  :-X :-X :-X ;D

As I recall, the knock was a single noise from the grinde. Ie add a series of knocks together, and we had a creak. A real heavy creak.

Next time we're up we can have another go if you like....?

Our Mig has a single knock on steering, that suggests to me a dry UJ in 'old skool' not ever sure the Mig has a UJ, not had the opportunity to look as yet...... :-\ :-\ :-\

I'm pleased to say that the gearbox ECU change seems to have cured the gear change problems. :y

Well blow me down with a feather :o

In the spirit of learning/OOF, next time you pass this way, fancy putting original back in, and we'll reapply the firmware, and see if that cures it... ...wondering if it went on corrupt? Can't remember if we flashed it originally, or if it was already at latest when you bought it.

Been flashed several times, you even put 2.5 solftware, then reloaded the 2.6.

The only thing I can think of is the original wasn't seating properly?

Suspect it would throw all sorts of codes, rather than just hang on to gears

Sort of, yes.

Before it was happening as you turned a sharp right, say into a side road, now it seems to happen on all right bends.

Just a thought,
if all the steering joints have been checked and all APPEARS TO BE GOOD,  have the front sub frame mount bolts been checked for tightness, it is just poss that the bolts have become loose.
hope you find it will watch this with intrest.

I've tweaked the steering box up a quarter of a turn, which seems to have improved it, will report back when I've taken it for a proper run.

Just trying to think how adjusting the steering box damper, which works in the straight ahead position, would affect a creak with steering off centre...? :-\

Been out for a good run today, knock got progressively worse, only appears to happen when cornering right :(

Plot thickens... Seems to be exactly as mine, opposite direction though but you also have the steering on the wrong side so makes the problem the same. Any recent updates or ideas what maight be the cause?

Well, it's defo. a dry joint somewhere.

Yesterday it was dry here, and it was creaking and knocking like a goodun'.

Today, it's pouring down, and not a peep from it.

Top drop link ball joint woul be in the right area iirc. But it would have to be a dry joint rather than a joint with play.

Iirc the creak/knock was with steering wheel at about 3 o'clock. As the ball drop link is attached to the shock body, it "might" be a possible cause. Although master would have had to undo the bottom ball joint when he worked on it. :-\
