Omega General Help / Re: Oil cooler change
« on: 09 June 2015, 19:00:26 »
If you have a branch of Machine Mart nearby, they will probably have crows foot spanners.
When I have done this job I haven't undone the pipes down by the filter. I gently bend them up out of the way (waits to get shot down in flames  :D ).
Im not recommending you do that though as it is a gamble. Theres always the possibility of the pipes cracking, which gives you an even bigger headache.  ;)

Short runs will cause mayo to accumulate under the oil filler cap but never in the header tank. Only cause of mayo in the header tank is failed oil cooler.
I have changed 2 leaking coolers on late model V6,s so Im dubious about this alleged improvement on the later ones.
I have used a second hand cooler as a replacement, but as said, you need to take care with the thread on the cooler when installing it. Its not hard to cross thread the nuts and strip the threads on the cooler.

Have considered buying one of these But don't know much about them. Have read a few horror stories about reliability - everything from gearboxes, suspension, electrics,to  problems with turbos and DPF on the diesel engines.
Wouldn't be covering many miles, so might go for a petrol rather than potentially troublesome diesel ?
Anyone have experience of running one of these, and what are the likely pitfalls / maintenance bills etc. ?  :-\

Omega General Help / Re: Aux belt tensioner warning signs...
« on: 06 June 2015, 14:03:52 »
My tensioner pulley bearing became very noisy a couple of years ago. I regreased it and all was well for about a year.
Then without warning the pulley disintegrated at motorway speed, without any warning at all. After this occurrence, I would be tempted to renew the pulley rather than regrease it and assume it will be ok for evermore.  :-\

Having spent some time reading through quite a lot of the old threads, I would agree that this forum was indeed one of the most friendly.
In fact, a few years ago it seems that it was absolutely hilarious on here at times. What happened ?  :-\

STOP BLOODY MOANING,BE CONSTRUCTIVE AND GET INVOLVED,  :y

They have been the rules for years so why should they be changed for you, so you dont have to post 250 times.

I can only assume that you read the title of the thread but didn't bother reading the content of my post.  ???
There was no moaning involved whatsoever. Imo the way to be constructive is to have a civilised discussion on any given topic.
Im as involved as I want to be in this forum. I happen to be much more involved in a few other forums, but they are much more open, friendly, and generally have a much higher level of discussion between members, without people shouting at each other.
I don't want the rules changed for me, in fact I don't actually want them changed at all. I just had the thought that it may be worth revisiting the subject and having a discussion about it, now that the forum appears to have changed quite dramatically  (cant think why  ::) :-X ) since the rules were first applied.
As I stated in my first post, I have no plans whatsoever to sell anything on here. Having read the comments on quite a few of the "Car for sale" threads, I can say with some conviction that if I decided to sell my Omega, this would be way down the list of places I would want to advertise it.  ;)

General Car Chat / Re: What about the 'other belt'?
« on: 05 June 2015, 11:07:41 »
I had the same thing happen about a year ago, although my belt got tangled and completely shredded itself, so the worst part of the job was removing all the bits of the old belt.
I was possibly lucky that it didn't break through the timing belt cover and cause mayhem in there ?
I had to get recovered home on the back of a truck for the first time in my life. :-[
If in doubt, I would recommend changing the belt and tensioner pulley. It doesn't cost much and takes around 15 minutes to do.

General Discussion Area / Selling rules - 250 posts.
« on: 05 June 2015, 11:00:51 »
Following on from the discussion about this in the newbie section - I have spent much more time reading through the sections of the forum than I have posting on it, and have  formed a few opinions on various issues.
One of them is that it could possibly be a good idea for the admins to consider lowering the limit ?
It seems pretty clear that when this figure was decided on, there were many, many more active members who posted many more posts on all kinds of subjects, so it would have been easier to rack up 250 posts in a shorter space of time.
It seems that the forum is now much smaller and less active, with less people wanting to sell cars or parts,so it may be worth the number of posts required being adjusted to reflect this ?
I don't have any parts or a car that I want to sell. Just thought it might be worth raising the matter for discussion.  ;)

The old style chip pan works best when you've consumed 15 pints of 'wifebeater' and decide to take a little nap while the pan warms up. ::) ::) :D ;)

That's exactly what my 2nd cousin did about 15 years ago. He woke up when the house was fully ablaze. His Mum, Dad, Sister and her baby were all upstairs in bed asleep when it happened. He was the only survivor. Drove him mad apparently.  :'(

I would agree with the above. Post office are pricing themselves into oblivion (hopefully), Parcel2go have the worst customer service in the known universe. Interparcel are the best option.  :y

If Cameron really is Tory who was hamstrung by his Libdem coalition partners (as we were led to believe), he is now free to persue his own agenda, and high on the list should be the removal of the BBC royal charter and the abolition of the viewing / listening tax.
Shut the whole thing down, make it pay per view, or let it make its own choice how to survive in the real world. It doesn't really matter which road it goes, but the gravy train should hit the buffers, very soon and very hard.

Is it possible to add a members poll to the thread ? Might be a bit of a laugh.  :-\
