You did indeed, but due to the fact the housing and bolts had lived happily with each other for years I discounted it until there wasnt much else left.  :y

:y  Glad you've hopefully got to the bottom of it  :y  (No pun intended). I'm guessing that the original seal had enough thickness to compensate but eventually failed after a while.

Picked up my new hot rod build yesterday, 2 day trip with a travel Lodge stop over. 300miles ,7 hours to get there and 8 hours to get back (Fri night m6/m5 chaos) . Now have the fun job of unloading it Mon as they put it on with a fork lift.

Finished putting the Omega back together - sandwich plate, plenum and associated odds & ends.
Used to be a 20 minute job, but took an hour.  ::)
All seems ok, will just keep an eye on coolant level to make sure theres no leaks.

Then did a quick engine service on Sons Civic.
It started p1ssing down just after I started but I had to keep going anyway, because he was going out womanising at 2pm.  ;D

With the assistance of Addy, also of this parish, took the front wings off the sensible Mazda yesterday. Thanks to their laissez-faire attitude to rustproofing they had crumbled to the point that would shame a Mk5 Golf.

Then got under, removed the plastic undertrays (main purpose to trap wet mud and make the floor rot).

This evening I scraped some underseal and found some bawbag has fibreglassed and undersealed over a rusty hole in the pan. Happy times Means I have to work out how to lift the carpets now... So much for a quick refresh!  >:(

Unloaded the Herferod of the trailer with the help of 3 mates from the hot rod club, took 2 hours of faffing with jacks, wheel skids and ratchet straps. Unbelievably all the wheels turn but the tyres were shot, 3 pumped up enough and the 4th went pop while doing the rest. BTW the rust on this makes your Mazda sound!!!!

Put the winter tyres on the Merc, and snow chains in the boot. First time the tyre pressure system hasn't complained when I've done this. Off to an Alp next week.

I had an old tyre burst on one of my Triumphs in the garage a few years ago. They were only being used for the car to stand on while doing some restoration work. I heard the explosion from the house which is around 20m away from the garage. Good job I didn't have my head under the car at the time..... :o
