Omega General Help / Should my Autobox do this?

I live on a hill hence my drive is on a slight incline not that big of a slope just raises about 18"  over the lenght of the car.
I have to reverse up the drive for ease of getting back out so when reversing i go up put my foot on the brake and when taking it off the car seems to slide back down whilst still in R.
Am presuming this is a slipping box so my question is can it be adjusted/tightened up, is it belts? or does it sound like a major job
If i do happen to go up the drive forward it never slips back down whilst in D and the box is fine in normal use.

1, Anyone know if you can buy the little catch that keeps the ashtray closed and if so a part number seems like a piece has fell off mine.
2, Does a PRE-facelift ashtray unit fit a facelift car as to me they look remarkably similar.

Omega General Help / Wires behind glovebox

Changed the glovebox lock/handle today and noticed a few cut wires and more wires going to a connector block but not plugged into anything
anyone know what the wires/connector should go to
Think there was a blue, red, yellow, and a black that were cut and others went into a smallish 18 pin connector
all were going towards the bottom right of the glovebox BEFORE the glovebox went back in

Recently when coming to a stop (at lights for instance) the cars revs will die down to around 500ish then a little surge takes it up to 650 say then back to 500ish autobox fitted any common reason for this guys?

Thanks to all who suggested that my crank sensor had failed you were right got it fixed today and all is fine.
I just couldn't get my head round something working one minute then not the next over a six week period.
Plus i had had TWO machines plugged in without finding any faults as they couldn't get further into the system
My local garage today plugged in found the fault got the part fitted it and hey presto.
Thanks also to Andyb for the offer of getting a crank sensor for me but i needed to know it was 110% that and without a machine to plug in couldn't so hence the garage today all in one foul swoop

Several of you maybe aware that my car has been stood for a couple of days now as it wont fire.
Several of you have said it is the Crank sensor that has gone
On doing the paperclip test and plugging in 2 x machines (NOT VX) why is it coming up with NO fault codes

sat here waiting for a lift as AGAIN the car wont start (wont fire)
my last post on this matter was over 2 weeks ago since then it has started everyday at least 10 times a day and covered around 750 miles runs great when its running have been tols its the crank sensor.
So for one last time before i spend £70/£80 on one is it normal for the crank sensor to behave like this starts ok then wont start then starts for 2 whole weeks then suddenly this morning wont start again
I am just amazed that a sensor could act this way

A few days ago i posted that my 2.5V6 wouldnt start, well sometimes it wouldnt start and when it did it was fine an intermittant fault i would say.
Had a test done but the guys machine couldnt get into the system however was told in no uncertain terms that the crank sensor had gone.
Another guy told me it was a relay common fault cant be nowt else thats the problem.
Well my car has started NO problems for the past 3 days now just as new
So has the crank sensor fixed itself has the relay mended too what has occured?

Omega General Help / Fault but NO fault codes showing

Did the paperclip test on a 2.5V6 2000(W)
Just flashed up 12 and 31 when engine was running it just flashed up 12
So NO faults then - but it wont start
Had it on a machine today and that showed no faults
Been told its the crank sensor oh i its a common fault the dis pack common fault that mate and a relay thats got damp oh yes its a common fault that.
Car wont start it seems when its been stood overnight its not been raining and its not been too damp a couple of mornings
Spray WD40 everywhere as i dont know of a specific area to spray it and 2 mins later its off and running and will start as normal no problems 100 times during the day if needs be had new plugs and leads fuel and air filter battery is good
when i say wont start it turns over great just wont fire
Any ideas anyone been told to take it to VX but i aint got VX money really
