Ah, just twigged... ...is this the leather from a 96 car? if so, it won't have side airbags.  Did you car previously have side airbags?

Heres the thing, yes it is from Jims car, but it does have the airbags in the seats, or at least the plastic covers with 'airbag' written on them.. and the wiring was there too, so I plugged it all in...

You need a code reader capable of reading airbag ECU (cheapo tech2 can be hit or miss) to locate fault, and a code reader capable of resetting light at end (cheapo Tech2 seems to do this OK).

I suspect maybe a reset should be OK, as no doubt you had ignition on before seats correctly wired?

Yes, battery was off and on like a yoyo - didn't risk pluging in either the airbag or the seatbelt tensioner while it was though, just in case.. I'll get myself a cheapo tech2 off ebay then, if thats no good I could come give you some money in Brackley one day perhaps?  If your kit can reset all that stuff?

Having fitted my new seats now, I have caused another problem!  The airbag light is on.

I have checked the connections, and everything is plugged in.  None of the seatbelt tensioners have fired, all is as it should be it would appear..

Is there anyway to get codes out of of it to find out which ones causing the issue?  Does it just need a reset - can I do that?

Much appreciated as always,

Chris.

Omega General Help / Re: What is this pipe?
« on: 02 April 2007, 15:21:26 »

While searching for my coolant leak, I spotted a little vacuum pipe at the front of the engine, sort of at the bottom, below the air filter box, which was not attached to anything, and had a 13A fuse stuck up its end to block it.

It is the length of a similarly routed pipe which goes to a roughly 6" x 6" x 2" box.

What is this pipe and where should it be.

If needs be I can get a photo.

If I reference the piccy in http://www.omegaowners.com/forum/YaBB.pl?num=1152565204

It looks like the front vac resivoir, mine has 1 pipe to it, should it have 2 and this is the 2nd?

What effect would it not being connected (or reconnected) have?

It should have two connected, you are correct.  One of mine snapped when I last took it off, I recconected it my shoving it into the vac tank through the hole that the pipe left when it broke.

Sealed it with a bit of spray adhesive, its in there working and not leaking - I would say you need to get that plugged back in to get the car to behave as it should be..

spent all day trying to fix dads door lock.... all went went, took door card to bits and old motor off, new one on (scrappy one)

Tested it before i put it back together, locked it.... and it did not pop back up again. Great or so i thought.

Put it all back together, and it seams to lock, but pull the door handle and the door opens!  :o >:(

Tried both scrappy ones, no joy. Now put old one back on getting same problem. What am i doing wrong!??!

For the past few tests i just wacked the motor on and connected it up, I did not put that metal hook to the motor behind the door handle (the actual key bit that looks like it twsits... is that important?   :-/

Stuck on what to do, no matter how i do it, the rest of the car locks ok and does not pop back up again, the drivers door just stays open  >:(

Any ideas?

Edit: Ooppps sry should have put this in General Help, sry!

Tunnie,

I've done the same on my GLS - the lock I put into the CD (silver one) is working, but it was dark so I didn't get chance to have a look at what I'd messed up on the GLS.  I'll be checking it tonight and I'll let you know - I did manage to dead lock it with another press on the button and this has stopped the door being openable...  It will be something simple I'm sure, just didn't have time to check it out yet..

Thanks Chris ..sounds like the problem could be resloved quite simpy..the suggestion you have made seems to fit the case...have recently had cam cover gaskets changed(which is another story as they still are leaking so are due to be done again next week bt mechanic in gillingham f.o.c..but i will be buying genuine gm gaskets and asking for exchange covers to be fitted  supplied also by me )so when work was last done could have been an issue with no or loose connections of fittings..this did not come to light until i need to give car a lot of revs on saturday afternoon on m26 road works to get out of way of belgian lorry in the wrong lane....so all things seem to point to that..will finish my coffee and toast and then go and have a look under bonnet to see what i can find.......asssuming they are loose/not connected when plugged back in will orange light go out???then assume will need to get fault codes that are logged in brain cleared..thanks alot..andrew

Think the credit for that one goes to sounds2k mate, I just pasted the codes!

*IF* I'm looking at the right bit:

59 Inlet manifold valve 1 Low voltage

73 Air Flow Sensor (AFS) Low voltage

Don't like the sound of the first one..

You might be able to find them yourself Here

Omega General Help / Re: Timing belt tensioner?

My mistake. It is the aux belt that has the cover missing. This is the only belt visible. I am getting timing belt done, the aux belt tensioner, the rocker cover gaskets and plugs and leads.

Should all be back in good working order tomorrow.

Thanks for the good advice as always  :y

Good, good!

There is no cover for the aux belt, it remains exposed - make sure when you get all that done they do change the cambelt tensioner and rollers, you can get a kit from autovaux for about 90 quid IIRC..

Power steering has also got noisey. I once again presume this runs off the aux belt and is therefore connected.

I also have no plastic cover. The entire cambelt is visible  :'(

I sincerely hope thats not the case - that would be lethal to the engine..

You'd be able to see 2 lots of belts spinning, one behind the other.. + wheres your cable tray that runs accross the front of the cambelt cover?!

I'm sure you could wire it up to do an instant recline and catapult her into the back ;D

Is this the project one?  Maybe I can come and inspect some time.

They're both project ones I suppose.. I haven't even looked at the red one, other than to swap a door locking motor over - I want to attempt the gearbox transplant on Sunday, bit scared tho to be honest, I'll be the only one that even remotely knows what they doing - and that is very remote!

Feel free to pop around anytime mate, I'll PM you my address :)
