Omega General Help / Rear wheel bearing
« on: 02 December 2010, 22:43:57 »
I'm fairly sure from the moaning coming from the back of the car (No offspring or partner!) that one of my rear wheel bearings is on it's way out, how much of a pig is it to do? (Had TIS but won't load on my new PC) it's a facelift TD estate, any info apprieciated

Omega General Help / Re: Engine Oil Overfill !!!
« on: 12 August 2010, 20:03:07 »
Agree with previous post, ½ litre isn't going to do much damage, especially if it's not high speed and load driving you're doing.
If you really want to get the excess out cheaply why not get hold of a 50ml plastic syringe (Chemist?) with some vac hose on the end and suck it out of the dipstick tube. Best to do when oil is warm and will take a while!

Omega General Help / Re: Tension on 2.2DTi Aux belt
« on: 17 March 2010, 16:14:23 »
Pretty sure the tensioner has either a 3/8 square drive in it near the end (female) or a cast in hex (male). It's at the opposite end of the bolt that attatches it to the front cover. They are difficult to move, but you should be able to rotate the tensioner enough to get the belt on.

Omega General Help / Re: Level seems fine so why the warning?
« on: 09 July 2009, 06:30:21 »
Just replaced my header tank, syphoned the coolant out with a plastic syringe, be warned over a litre of coolant in it, you need to be very good not to make a mess!

Omega General Help / Re: 2.2DTi injector pump seal...
« on: 19 May 2009, 18:11:03 »
On this engine the injector is in the middle of the combustion chamber, so as its a single cam the top of the injector is on the same centre line as the cam (Basically they're under the cam). I can't see that the injector washer (The copper washer on the nozzle end) would be causing fuel to leak into the chamber when the engine is off (That would be an injector pintle fault).
The only seal I can see doing this is on what VX term the "traverse" pipe, this goes from the inlet side of the head where the fuel pipes from the pump connect, to the centre where the injector is.
The traverse pipes have 2 seals, one is an "O" ring around the body where it comes through the head casting, the other is where it attatches to the top of the injector (They're clamped by 1 bolt) I'm not sure but I think to get them out you may have to remove the cam, which is a bit of a chore (Did mine when I reconned the head so can't rememver for sure) but on the bright side the seals are under a fiver.

Standing at the front, its on top and in the middle of the inlet manifold under the beauty cover on the right hand (inlet) side, round black plastic unit approx 2" in diameter

Omega General Help / Re: 2.2 dti power loss again
« on: 30 April 2009, 06:37:53 »
£450 for injector seals! which ones? I replaced the top injector to traverse pipe seals and the traverse pipe O rings through the head, and ok the cam needs to come out to get to these but the parts were less than a tenner. Or do they mean the injector washers?

Glad to hear it may be sorted though.

Omega General Help / Re: 2.2 dti power loss again

Not sure on the power loss, but the EGR valve and manifold pressure sensor (same as boost) are in the inlet manifold.
The EGR is on the top of the manifold in the centre, luckily, unlike a lot of pesky petrol's I've seen these have no electronic control, just relies on vacuum. It defaults to closed so if you do take it off check the pintle is sealing on the seat.
The manifold pressure sensor is at the rear of the manifold, again I think it's on the top.
Having just had the head off mine (2 seized glowplugs!) Marks DTM Calib is right in that they gum up, I scraped up to 3mm of clag off the inside of the manifold and even more off the swirl ports and the inlet valve stems were up to 12mm in diameter! It's definitely worth cleaning as much of this out as you can as mine runs a lot better. I found that "Mr Muscle" oven cleaner was pretty good if left for ½ hour or so, but take the manifold off first!

General Car Chat / Re: saloon/estate backbox?
« on: 15 October 2010, 05:30:20 »
Had a small hole in my mid pipe (2.2DTi estate) looked at buying new mid pipe and back box as the joint was so corroded I didn't think I'd get them apart, cheapest was £300 all in. Welded it up instead, but noticed that the fit was awful, supplier told me they are different estate to saloon that's why it's so pricey. Looked like previous owner found the same and fitted saloon parts. Anyhow some "tweaking" and it's still Ok.

General Car Chat / Re: dab is trash
« on: 15 June 2010, 21:23:33 »
I've got a Blsupunkt DAB in the estate with the cheap stick on windscreen aerial and I can't fault it. Great reception almost everywhere I've been, with the exception of one section of the A14 where FM drops out too. Have to say we've got a DAB at work and it's useless, go figure!
