I know I shouldn't laugh but
« on: 09 September 2012, 13:41:31 »

I live in a little village which is blighted by cycling clubs. Every Sunday from 7.30 am ish there are groups of cyclists riding through the village shouting to each other about what they've been up to the week before spoiling my Sunday morning lie in >:(

I live almost on a corner and I was sat in the car facing the junction fitting cruise and variable wash wipe in the car, a transit had just turned the corner and had to wait in front of my car while a car came past going in the opposite direction when a load of Bradley Wiggins wannabes came flying around the corner almost knee down to be faced with the back of a Transit, not being able to stop they took evasive action which meant one went over the footpath and head first over next doors wall. Luckily he wasn't hurt but he wasn't too happy at me pishing myself laughing. The cyclists tried to blame the van driver so I gave him my number just in case it involves the insurance.

Its made my day ;D ;D

Wish I had been there to see it.

Blame culture again...... oh, what a bore. Ah, yes, just remembered. If, as a person in charge of a vehicle of any kind on the road, you need to take evasive action to avoid a stationary vehicle, it has to be the fault of the owner of said stationary vehicle. Similar to burning yourself on hot coffee because nobody pointed out the coffee may be hot.

I'm learning  ;)

Many of us do.  And we feel the same way about motorists obeying the law and having insurance, odd given that most cyclists are also car drivers too :y

I am very pleased to hear it :y

What about the ones who ignore trafflic lights, go on the pavement when it suits them, turn onto a major road without stoping, sneak up in the blind spot at junctions, never use lights, never signal, and worse still totally ignore the cylcle lanes provided :( :(

Cycle lanes are not suitable for cycling on, on the whole. ::) They are designed to tick boxes and nothing else, so don't expect cycles to be using them when present. Cycles are quite entitled to be on the road. ;)

If you join British Cycling ( like i did ) you actually do have insurance  :y

Extract from membership paperwork .....

Please find details below of your British Cycling Membership.
Legal and insurance benefits
Most people wouldn’t dream of driving a car without insurance, yet some cyclists don’t take the same
steps to protect themselves when they are out on two wheels. Thankfully, you’re not one of them and
for as long as your ‘Ride’ membership remains valid you will benefit from two important areas of legal
and insurance support to protect you during your cycling activities:
• Legal Assistance & Advice - to support a claim made by you against a third party
• Liability Insurance - to protect you from a claim made by a third party against you
The Incident Helpline 0161 274 2015
The Cycling Incident Helpline offers legal and insurance assistance to members who have been
involved in an incident whilst riding or wheeling their bike and where appropriate will arrange advice
and representation from professional personal injury lawyers. Your membership details and a brief
description of the incident will be taken over the telephone and a report sent immediately to our
appointed solicitors and/or insurers.

I get bored with this type of conversation.

What about those motorists who pull out in front of cyclists, who dont see you because they are on the phone, overtake and then pull in too early pushing you on to the pavement or even, in my case, the ones who deliberately ram you off the road at 30mph.

Cleggy, you dont do any of that as far as I know but I dont tar you or all motorists with the same brush.  There are as many idiots on four wheels as there are on two.  The big difference is that if a motorist makes a mistake they could kill a cyclist, if a cyclists decides to break the rules and gets run over then that's just classic Darwinism at work :y

Trust me, cyclists have a lot more to be peeved about than motorists do.  That comes from someone who sits on both sides of the fence and regularly disciplines soldiers for not following the rules around my area.  If I could do the civies too then I would  :y
