Key fob wont stay programmed
« on: 28 October 2012, 12:55:43 »

hi yall.i,ve been a member of this forum a couple of months now and this is my first post.my car is 2000 f/l 2.5td cdx auto.Recently the center locking has playing up.one day it works next day not.the other day i didn,t use car for 3 days.when i tried to start it the radio had turned itself on and flattened the battery.after charging and dismantling /cleaning key fob it worked perfectly, however next day not.when its not working the boot release on dash doesent work either.also when opening the door the buzzer sounds as if the lights are left on.i,ve put key in ignition turned on &pressed buttons several tmes &the locks dont go up &down.ive never done the paper clip test.would this help? if not do i need tech 2? if so who is close to me.i live in swindon.if any one can help i would be very gratefull.thanks, paul saunders.

Is the battery connection in the fob loose - this can cause it to loose syncronisation, and the reset procedure in the user guide will manually resolve it.

If the entire central locking plays up, has some idiot been near the programming side of it with an illegal code reader, as I have seen this before.

Sounds more like switch issues on the fob. Does the red led light up when you press the buttons?

Sounds like its already had a new cover fitted. The light is normally between the Unlock and Lock buttons.

And if it's already had a new cover fitted it makes it even more plausible that the switches are "beyond their best" and the old cover was split from pressing them excessively hard

The ebay replacement covers are quite poor as well, too hard.

For this reason, for my own facelift fobs, I buy a GM replacement fob when my cases start to go.  But then I try to change the switches in time, before this happens :)

There is on my 2 anyway, between the open and close buttons, also the repair kits on that well known site mention the red LED as well

Alarm ECU. But assuming it hasn't been molested by a cheap, illegal chinese code reader, they are normally ultra robust.

So I'd still say fob.

Do you just have the 1 fob?
