Windscreen smearing issues...
« on: 05 December 2012, 17:08:02 »

Has been like this for some months but now that its raining fairly often it's becoming annoying and dangerous in heavy rain, It's hard to explain what it looks like exactly as it doesn't show up in camera pictures, It's like when the wipers are on doesn't matter what mode fast, slow etc the smearing blotches streak marks are all over the screen and as soon as the wipers stop the windscreen is crystal clear :-\ ..... I've tried cleaning the windscreen in and out and used clay bar on the outside and car screen cleaner and changed the wipers twice with Bosch ones ... I'm puzzled on how to fix / cure this potentially dangerous problem ... I have thought is could be a type of wax from a mix of car shampoo when washing the car but I haven't washed the car for almost 2 month roughly  :(

Anyone else had similar problems, Any advice ?  :)
Thanks In Advance...

As you have bought new wipers I doubt it, I tend get Halfords Wipers on trade. Something like £18.99 retail, trade gets them for £7.99 a pair  :)

Not amazing, but not bad for the price  :y

Sounds like you have wax polish on the screen , as said .. bit of vinegar on a cloth and rub the whole screen to degrease, then wash with water and a touch of vinegar, finally polish with a rolled up newspaper.

Wipe the wiper blades with cloth and vinegar

Don't put polish/snow foam/turtle wax whatever in your wash bucket and then do the glass .. certain to get the wax on the glass that way .. :)

I know what you mean.. I have the same problem after windscreen changed.. it happens only when wet..

not sure but may be worth trying.. choose one point and work on it with a G3 paste and a high rpm polisher.. may help :-\

I just want to check before I start smearing the window with Vinegar that I use the correct type  ::) do you mean the regular brown vinegar or the white/clear type .. If the latter I don't have any and don't think I've seen any in the shops. As for rubbing newspapers on the screen is there any particular way to do this correctly ?

Don't use news papers, any vinegar is fine, pour some into a small bowl. Add a tiny bit if washing up liquid (fairy or what ever)

Mix it up a bit, with a j-cloth or any soft bit of rag, dunk it in and wash the outside of the screen. You don't need that much liquid, just enough to be damp.

I have always found wiping the screen and wiper blades with neat Vauxhall Opticlean very effective coupled with Opticlean in the washer bottle mixed with filtered tap water (our water is very hard).

Use rolled up newspaper to polish mate - rag or j-cloth will leave smears!! ;)

It could be but I have found that diesel, thrown up with rain off the road can have the same effect and makes it very difficult to see............I use a screen wash which helps minimise such problems.... :y

I have plenty of old/new newspapers and clean good quality microfibre cloths, I don't have any J-Cloths and cant say i've heard of them...

I will try Tunnie's suggestion tomorrow with a microfibre cloth, Mixture of standard brown vinegar and a bit of fairy liquid and some warm water..

Hopefully this will solve whatever is causing the blurry vision.. And when i say blurry vision i don't see various rainbow colours one would see from any type of fuel on the screen, So I presume its wax from a liquid wash and wax I used months ago..
