Ive always had trouble understanding the cult of Mandela. Always found him quite unimpressive tbh,and afaik his people are still impoverished and living in shanty towns,in a country with superb natural wealth creating resources.

Didnt see it as I was in bed after working nightshift last night.Just been watching some highlights on SKY news and it looked like the type of thing that us Brits seem to do best.A unique mixture of pomp and dignity.
Amazed that Heseltine and Ken Clarke had the nerve to turn up tbh.Heseltine never hid the fact that he detested her,and Ken Clark was the man who campaigned tirelessly against her and convinced a lot of colleagues to vote against her in the last couple of days of her premiership,due to his great love of all things European,which she of course fought and argued against.

As she herself said to her daughter, her place in History is assured and whether you loved her or hated her she returned this country's  Backbone and Self Respect at a time when it was badly needed. Incidentally, I disliked her and admired her in equal measure. May she Rest in Peace.
