What are these portable A/C units like on electric have seen a few for sale A rating..

Was thinking on a fan like this if going down this route.

fantastic thread. One of the best for ages. ;D ;D ;D ;D

Please keep up these tales of excessive heat. The time to worry is when it is 26degC inside and 26 outside.(Yes cem I know that isn't really hot but the problem is North Europeans are born with thick blood yours is 5W/20, theirs is 30W/50))  If it is 9 outside then either turn the heating off or perhaps open some windows.

 ;D ;D ;D

When I was over in Ukraine a few weeks ago it was proper hot weather of 25degC on a cool day and up to 34degC on a hot day and about 50degC in the sun, :y :y :y when I came back here it felt like winter.  :(

I was doing a lot of building work most days with granite rock for damp proof layer and then heavy concrete blocks, so I got the full effect of the heat.  :y :y :y

I love proper hot weather and can't wait to be out there permanently.  :y :y

In the UK where I have a chalet bungalow, when we do get a hot spell the flat roofs act like large radiators. So, I have put ceiling fans in each of the bedrooms, which on their lowest speed are practically silent and provide a gentle breeze. I much prefer them to ordinary fans as the noise does not disturb your sleep.

Something like this ?

Westinghouse Bendan 132 cm/ 52-inches Ceiling Fans, Satin Chrome-Wengue

Don't know if I'd pay that much for one but I presume cheap ones would be noisy  :-\

anyone searching for fans, is searching for trouble..

I remember some years ago when I warned a British couple sitting in front of a fan at a bar (night time ), they looked me like I'm mad  :-\   but the next day both were sick..

That would mean having the engine on all night imagine how much petrol it would use  :o :D ;D

I'll have a look on Argos's website see if i can find one around £50 say.

How noisy are these compared to ceiling fans ?

Those are noisy as the air has to pass through the mesh , ceiling fans are better and quieter .. think we paid £30 a while back for one , and the flying bugs dont like them if they ever come out of hibernation  ;D
