Dilemma..
« on: 30 June 2013, 21:53:54 »

Have promised I'd take 3 members of the family to somewhere some 240 miles there and back in the 3.2 (with leather interior) which wouldn't be a problem apart from "the dog" aye yeah it's a small lap dog but still they do have sharp nails and not forgetting the teeth  ;D ... I've tried getting around bringing the dog but its either bring the dog or shit hits the fan...., so my question is how to transport 4 people (me included) and a small dog in a Omega saloon... I've tried mentioning the boot which didn't go down too well.. So the only solution would be in the rear centre if by the windows will most likely go for the windows scratching the hell out of the door card.

Anyone know of anything that could securely hold a King Charles size dog in the centre rear so it doesn't jump about and just encase be waterproof you never know  :o and not too expensive.. Have considered hiring a car like in Top Gear  :P but I'm pretty sure animals arn't aloud I'm them.

Not sure which section to put this in as its kinda car chat and not  :-\

Thanks anyways
Jay

How well behaved is the dog?

Before we got the Estate, the front passenger seat would go all the way back and the dog would go next to the feet of the passenger.

Its by far safest place, a dog sitting on the rear bench is going to go sliding all over the place in the corners. If its in the middle and you have to slam on the brakes for what ever reason, the dog goes flying forwards.

Footwell or back seat, between passengers on a blanket or towel etc, it shouldn't be a problem if it's owner is going to be with it...... :y :y

Can you not secure it to something, maybe the exhaust manifold, with gaffa tape or suchlike?  ;)

seriously put it in a small cage in the boot behind the seat with the ski hatch open so it can see it's owner and get the odd treat?

If you're that prissy get a van ::)

Failing that, plastic sheet in the boot and fold the centre of the backrest down. If the dog is tethered then it will be able to see out. It won't like it and will create a fuss, and not my first choice.

On the back seat will be fine. If the dog is housetrained then no issues imho :y

But seriously, if it bothers you that much, recind your offer, job done :-\

Small to Medium size dog harnesses are very cheap and simply plug into the centre seat belt lock( or wherever you want to restrain the dog) :y

How well behaved is the dog?

Very with the owner in close proximity... BUT when on its own or with only strangers mad as hell.. It's a bitch in both definitions of the word  :-X.

Before we got the Estate, the front passenger seat would go all the way back and the dog would go next to the feet of the passenger.

That might work buts its a fussy dog will have to be on her lap or next to her or it wont stop winging and scratching.

Its by far safest place, a dog sitting on the rear bench is going to go sliding all over the place in the corners. If its in the middle and you have to slam on the brakes for what ever reason, the dog goes flying forwards.

True...  :-\

We used to have an Alsatian who loved to sit in the middle of the back seat watching where she was going. The best bit was the way she used to lean into the bends like a seasoned bike rider.

Ideal just need to put something underneath to prevent damage to the leather and to stop sliding about.. There will be 2 people in the rear with the dog so should be okay with that harness thingy.
