Mot fail
« on: 02 July 2013, 14:53:52 »

Hi all

Just failed my mot.
Headlamp washers not working. :(
Is there a known problem or anything in particular I should check first.

Thanks

Assuming they were tested with lights on.
Green fuse in relay box by battery

If OK apply 12V to washer pump (red in pic)

If pump spins, remove it and clean filter

It,s the pump.

Ordered one off ebay £40. Seems a lot when the windscreen ones are under a tenner.

Mot tester says he's failed a fair few on this, as it's a relativley new test this year,
and most people are'nt aware of it, me included.

Also thanks for the pics RobG made finding the problem so much easier.

Been there, done that  :-X
Same story for me last year!
And strangely these pumps are more expensive than the windscreen one.

I'll have to check mine in the next few weeks before its MOT. The fuse for mine has been in the driver's door pocket for years!

if they were on the car at time of build and leaving the factory, and the car has HID lamps fitted as std then yes it will fail the mot even if they have been removed.

I agreed to buy and it doesn't seem right to cancel it.

Also it is a new one and still cheaper than the £75 stealers wanted.
Also promised fast delivery as I have ten days for a free retest.

One bonus is it only takes seconds to change. :), and quite pleased
that was all that was wrong with the car, no advisories even.

It's just you ;D The rules have always been straight forward in this regard... If fitted, it needs to work :y
