Vapouriser location?
« on: 03 July 2013, 20:20:26 »

Took the front bumper off tonight with the intention of fitting the vapouriser in front of the drivers wheel. Unfortunately found that there was already a component taking up the space. Haven't identified it yet, but that can wait.
Anyway, there was still some room, but on each trial fitting I found it fouled the bumper, or more specifically, the foglight housing. There is a single position which accomodates it, but I think it is a little low, possibly just level with the bottom of the bumper. Probably not a good idea.
It's a little big to fit onto the inner wing as in the guide, and although I think it would probably fit above the horns on the passenger side of the bumper, that would require major work to route the pipes, etc.
So, any suggestions where I could fit the vap? It is quite large tbh. The bagpipes, etc are removed so I'm not sure there would be sufficient space at the floor, almost below the alternator, which was my second thought  :-\

Edit: It's not the s/l pump is it?

Yep

Bearing in mind other plans, can it then be removed?
Also, can it be disconnected without any really detrimental effect on the suspension? Wasn't planning on changing the shocks just yet  :-\

Best place is under the coolant bottle, in place of the auxiliary heater pump :y

Needs to be mounted vertically for best results iirc. Remember, wherever you fit it, you need to run coolant pipes and lpg pipes to it, so better up and out of the way and out of the crumplezone :y

Yes al, I've read them. Many times  ;D
I was just a little put out by the initial problem, and sought some inspiration!

And thanks symes, I'm going to go out and have a look  :y
Though that vap looks smaller or more compact than mine.

Bolt it to the inside of the suspension turret / inner wing under the water bottle.
As high up as possible because its a t**t to adjust the pressure without burning the back of your hand if its too low  ;)
Make sure you clip up all cables and lpg pipes because the exhaust manifold is pretty close and the pipework and wiring don't like it  ;)

Feel free to ask about anymore potential f**k up's  :)
I think I found everyone before I got mine spot on  :-[ ::) ;D ;D ;D

As said, remove the winter warming pack (pump) from under the water bottle

I'm interested to see what vap you have that's too big to fit there. But as said, bare in mind you need to adjust the vap pressure when its commissioned.

Also, if the lpg fuel pipes are too long problems occur with delivery og gas to the injectors. (Tilo's words) so I'd suggest the bumper area is too far away anyway.

Is yours a single fuel feed or twin?

Thanks guys for all the replies  :y

Had another play there. The vap just about fits in the expansion tank area, but the connections for the water pipes are pointing at the engine, and I'm not sure there'll be sufficient room to manipulate the pipes to go in the right direction, but I'll have a go tomorrow. It will also be a bugger to get it drilled for fitting.

Wish I'd inspected behind the bumper before wasting time removing it  :-[

I should add that the system was previously fitted to a similar car to mine, and I was simply trying to reinstall it the same way I removed it. It was working perfectly on removal. I have no previous knowledge of vapourisers but certainly this one looks larger than those pictured, and more annoyingly, the fitting for the lpg feed is extended away from the main body, thereby taking up more room.

In hindsight I should have explained this first, so I apologise if I have been misleading  :-[

I'll have to look into that because that would probably makes things easier  :y

It does. Lots.

You won't notice the pump missing unless you sit in the car in winter with engine off/heater on, which means a flat battery in 20mins with the radio on as well, going by Mrs Gixers efforts. ::)
