I personally just use tap water with my 50/50 mix.

You shouldn't do that in Northampton your water is hard, well hard. Check the instructions on your antifreeze.

We're all well 'ard in Northampton mate. GRRRR  :y :y :y

In seriousness I didn't know about water hardness. never had a problem before  :y

Put your moobs away Mr Bear ;D

The harder the water, the more minerals in it. The more hard water in your engine, the more limescale in it :'(

You don't use distilled water in your kettle and I bet you buy a new one every couple of years because it's all furred up and fubared ::)

That is where it should be :-\ There should be a plastic drain plug (often red) and a spout that you can push a small hose onto to direct the coolant into a suitable containerbucket.

I think you should collect a sample of your coolant and send it off for analysis.  :)

Two things wrong with that pic...

1. That is what you unscrew, but it's a cheapy pattern radiator, so all bets are off.
2. You're one winter away from needing a new aircon condensor.

Washing up bowl under that cap and unscrew it. You can flush coolant down the toilet, but not down a street drain :y

Ah  :(

A/C Condenser isn't that old going by receipts only a few years...

We don't have street drains just a septic tank that gets emptied every so often.

... Should be fun this job then  ::)

As far as putting water in the kettle you are changing the water every time you use it in the car the same water stays in for at least one year and a lot longer for most cars,

Yes, but it's not evaporating, and it's the same water going round for years, so it only has a limited amount of scale to deposit before it's become soft water. In the same way, your central heating boiler won't scale up, even in a hard water area, heat exchangers in combo boilers excepted.

In addition, antifreeze will contain inhibitors to prevent scale forming.
