DVLA car tax clmping van!!!
« on: 13 June 2008, 14:01:44 »

Just looked out of the window to find a man in a police like uniform eyeing  up the tax disc on my car! Went out to investigate and he was sitting in a DVLA wheel clamping van on the phone! He then got out to recheck my tax whilst completely ignoring my questions!

I then stood in front of him and demanded to know what he was doing. He said that he had been sent to clamp my car as it had been shown on a mobile camera as untaxed!
He then said that he had spoken to his boss and was unable to clamp as it is tax exempt due to disability. And is displaying a valid tax disc!

Any one heard of any thing like this before?

Sounds like you have totally genuine reasons - but for those who dodge tax, I think it's a great idea...

To add the car was driven home with out of date tax a month ago due to a misunderstanding, but nothing we could do about it.

The car has been on the driveway ever since, with the exception of 2 x 200 yard test drives to check functionality after work on it, but no cameras in the road (afaik)

Well they can't clamp in on your drive.
Even if a disabled exemption it is still 'taxed' it is the fee that is waived, so don't know what the guy was on about.
Should be out catching the real untaxed and uninsured cars >:(

It only got its tax disk on Wednesday, but was on the drive and virtually unused until then.

Swapped Insurance, and taxed it this week

Not happy about Tax or SORN options....Don't see why there isn't a third category or at least a permitted period between Taxed and needing SORN. My tax has run out (end of May) but I can't get the new one until I get through the MOT for which work is being done. Should I have a SORN even though I intend getting it back on the road as fast as possible?
Do agree that on the road must be taxed, but they seem to be taking the TV License route of if we have your address you must have a license, then check if you have a tellie once it gets to court.
Going SORN makes it that bit more complex when you want to re-tax.

You need to SORN it.........when you then re-tax it the sorn automatically gets deleted, no extra difficulty

Should be the same to retax?

to Sorn - 1 minute on line

to Unsorn - Buy tax as normal

I see your point, but it is still easy to tax. I did mine online and car had been sorn for 5 months, only problem was I had to wait till 1st of the month to do it. :)

Thats how I have done it in the past, online never had any issues thereafter re-taxing the car.
